I don't think the extra 4 pin would be need unless you are doing tri or quad SLI. For dual SLI you'll be fine with out the extra power. Similarly the extra 4pin CPU power is not necessary for 5.0 and below Air and water cooling. It's more for ultra high clocks using LN2 etc. I think the width is your biggest issue and the placement of the stand offs. I don't think that R4 will work XL R2 yes but even the original R2 didn't support EATX which is what you need. GL

Ok! I know that Maximus V Formula fits in an r4 so I hope that OC Formula will too. It seems to be a great motherboard but I'm not planning to buy a larger case. Are you sure about the molex connector? I don't think I can hold my self from ordering it smile.gif

No I'm not absolutely sure about the molex for SLI. Especially in lite of doing a little googling on the subject. It's not that there is an abundance of ill reports out there it more that it came from a reliable source Aandtech. In there review of the board it was noted that the molex was required for SLIed GTX 580s. To make a special note on the subject in the review is enlightening and good enough for me to throw caution to the wind. We all know 580s are power hungry especially when overclocking if you need or want the headroom I'd say now it's a requirement. If you plan to use 680s in SLI they may be a little more forgiven in terms of voltage requirement but the operative word is is 'MAY'. I based my comment on previous generation boards that I have used with additional pcie power connectors and such was the case with those boards. It seems ASRock is a bit different in this regards so I have to take back my comment.

You are welcome! I'm glad to be of help. It's hard to earn a good rep around here otherwise. GL in your search for a new board if I had a recommendation it would be the Gigabyte Z77X-UD5  no doubt just as good a board and will fit perfectly in your case. I know I just sold one and the only reason I kept the Formula is for it bling factor. You will not be unhappy with that choice. again GL and hang with OCN it's a great place filled with superb enthusiast that can help you along the way.

@ warren: Thanks for the reply.

My temps were hitting 72C in Prime blend after a while with ambient 23C. But when I undervolted (1.292vCore I was getting on auto cpu voltage is RIDICULOUS for stock even with 3.9 on all cores with multicore enhancement) with -0.2 offset I got decent (expected) Ivy temps (peak vCore 1.104 - just barely touching the 60C peak temp). I'll probably try to go even lower with volts.

Another thing came up. Since fan-tastic tuning is **** to put it mildly, I decided to just use the BIOS options. Hooked up one case fan to CPU2 (3pin, works nicely) and the other case fan I want to change speed depending on CPU temp to the only other one having AUTO option - CHA1. Thing is, CHA1 is 4pin pwm header and the fan I want to controll is 3pin. With set on auto and target speed 1 it still spins only 100RPM slower than on full (1400 instead of rated 1500). Is it because CHA1 doesn't know how to use volt regulation or can it be a limitation of the fan itself? Is there a BIOS setting to tell the MOBO to use volts instead of PWM for CHA1?

Thanks!

Anyone know how many fans can be daisy chained to the CPU fan header? I currently have 6 GT-15's connected to cpu fan header 2. May be up to 8 when I finally switch the 360 rad for a 480. whistle.gif

Damn, I wouldn't go with more than two. Why can't you use the other headers?
