**[OFFICIAL]** Asrock Z77 OC Formula Overclocking / troubleshooting/ Discussion - Page 3

Hey guys. This is my first post here. I'm trying to maybe get some advice about this board. I built a rig using the OC Formula and I've been having problems with it. I'm trying to figure out if it's defective, or what.

First off, it's an amazing board (when it's running).

When I first put the PC together, it didn't post. Finally, after several attempts, it fired up. I got it running, everything installed... worked fantastic. The computer is lightning fast and I really like this MB.

But, after a day, it started having intermittent problems when first turning it on (it won't post, black screen). I'd toggle it off/on a few times, and it would finally kick on like nothing happened. The computer runs like clockwork once it boots up. The debugger on the board has a red "boot err" light that comes on when it doesn't post.

This morning, I couldn't get it running at all. I took the board out, and tried only hooking up cpu(with H50 Watercooler)/ single stick of ram/power, using the onboard graphics. Still will not post. I tried a few different brands of ram, still no dice.

I've never had a MB only post when it feels like it. It's either working or DOA.

Does anyone have any thoughts on that? Do you think it's shot? What could be the problem? The "DR Debug" codes read anything from A6 to D4.. it seems to be different every time I try to turn it on now.

I can RMA it, but I've heard it takes ASRock the better part of 2 months to send a replacement. I need this machine for work, so I can't really wait it out.

The rig is-

Intel i7 3770 at stock speeds (no OC for now)
ASRock OC Formula
Corsair XMS3 32gb ram kit
2x GTX 660 in SLi
2x 240gb SSD drives
1000w psu
3tb external drive

etc, etc.

Anyone wish to help me troubleshoot what the problem might be?

Somewhere in the BIOS there is a boot mode setting, NORMAL, FAST, ULTRA FAST. As far as I know, the ULTRA FAST setting can only be used with Windows 8.

I have mine set on FAST. Using W7 x64. No problems here.

Thanks for the pointer. I'm sure if it were set to Ultra Fast, it might cause issues in WIN7 64. I've had it on "fast" since I originally set it up, which worked great. But now I can't even get into the BIOS, anyway.

Nick Shih, can you please send this to the bios editors.
When my Fixed voltage is set to exactly 1.205V, the system will automatically run at 1.384V in windows.
Any other voltage is fine just 1.205.

Love your OC profiles but your chip must have been reallly good, for 4.7Ghz i need 1.405V!
But i think its due to the paste between Cores and IHS, since its hitting 105C on a WC loop, with a GPU 7970 which only reaches 60C when oc'd to 1150.

That voltage may be good enough for benchies ;p

I tried 4.7 at 1.35V but got BSOD'd very quickly (Prime95 small FFT, IMO best for quick heat and stability test).

I also get really bad temps. At 1.25V (4.5GHz) with WC, CPU temp delta (from water) is 47 deg C :*(

My i7-860 had a much better delta.

Waiting on my LiquidPro to delid this 3770K.

I confirm the same behavior with BIOS 1.42A.

I seem to be getting this too with BIOS 1.42A. I can get in, but it takes a few attempts.

Can u capture the screen of device manager ?




Can u removed the battery for 5 min . After put the battery back , press CMOS button few times .

And check if any strange behavior again . btw, where are u from ? I want to figure out why we need to take 2 months of replacement there ...

About the voltage of profile . I tired the voltage which is capable of doing 3dmarks with some normal cpus here .

Everyone has different quality of cpu , you might have to adjust vcore for stability test depends on the cpu ability .

Yes , ultra fast only works in windows8

OH 3DMark haha, i'm running large FFT"s im sure i could get 3DMark to work on those volts.

I don't have the board but want to get it...but the lack of community support of Kmerrows issue at the top of this page is kinda making me wary of getting it. Everyone seems to like this board but i was hoping that the community would be a bit more responsive to issues if I were to have one. Anyway, gonna keep reading. debating atm on getting this over the weekend
