Large, powerful GPUs and CPUs have their own, highly-specialized difficulties, but SoC probably have more kinds of difficulties.
Mmm, I see. I'm surprised I thought GPUs would be much larger than that... what's the 7970? It's got to be in the 300's right? Thanks for the info.

Also they can't possibly buy enough stocks to gain enough voting shares in Samsung.

But for entertainment value imagine Apple taking over Samsung and everything ending up like Apple's products. All TV's, DVD/Blu Ray players, phones, laptops, etc. That would give the word conformity a whole new meaning.
It's more like 125 billion.

Except for one problem mate. Apple doesn't have Blu-Ray. LOL!

It's more like 125 billion.

I don't believe a word of how much Apple have or don't have, but more importantly I don't care.

i wish apple would buy samsung. then maybe samsung could (or would choose to) supply apple enough panels, so you don't have to play panel lottery with the new rmbp

Uh okay. You were talking about finances though and how Apple's couldn't afford to buy them, I was just pointing out that it's more like 125 billion at this point in time, if not more.

That would be the worst possible thing they could do.

As for the discussion earlier about die sizes, Nvidia gk110 is a pretty massive die, something around the 525-550mm^2 area I'm sure most SoC's would love that kind of room if there werent other drawbacks.

Apple cannot possibly buy out enough of Samsung at this time in Korean history because the highest percentages of the stock are privately held. Those shares held privately almost all belong to the various Koreans with written rules and limits about the way those shares can be bought and sold. Apple might be able to get enough public shares to force a seat at their board of directors but at that point it would cross invalidate any lawsuits happening between the two companies and as others have stated cause investigations into monopolization and get them very little influence into the actual actions of the Samsung semiconductor division.

And how many firms have not made bold claims even an hour before they admitted to being bankrupt? Need I remind you of the many banks who went running to the government, demanding tax payers bail them out or they would totally destroy what is left of our so called 'free markets'? These very same criminals were pretending to be making billions in profits days before they demanded free money.

I'm not sure a company as popular as Apple could hide that. Don't they publish all their sales data too or something like that?

Anyway they only have a few products which are all very successful. It's not hard to believe how they can have that much money... they make $400-$600 per iPhone 4S -- and I assume the same for the 5 -- and they sold two million iPhone 5's in one day, and are predicted to sell another six million by the end of the week. At $400 each that's 3.2 billion in a few days. They're probably going to sell about fifteen million a quarter which is nearly twice that... and then there's the iPad, iPod, Mac and iTunes.
