Slight Bottleneckin Don't know why

Well for some reason while turning off my computer it will lock up and take forever to exit out, also the operating system just seems to run slow. I'm using windows media center right now and have all the updates for everything I have and I don't know what it is. I really don't run too many programs in the background...just the X-Fi Utilities, ATI Controls and my onboard WI-FI. I have 2 gig of ram and my CPU clocked to 2.1 ghz. Just gradually startin up the OCing with my E6300 here. Anyways would windows xp pro help out in the bottleneckin? I just built my friend a computer with the AM2 4200+ and his computer seems to run smoother than mine ><. He's also running regular OEM Home Edition so I'm wondering if that has less crap running in the background than my Media Center.

I notice my computer is constantly using 400MB of ram but I assumed thats normal. Well if theres anything you guys can suggest I do I am open to suggestions It's not that the computer is running slow slow it's just that it seems to just lock up sometimes. On shut down it'll take like 5min or so sometimes and I can't figure out what its stuck on. Oh well.

Kevin

Here are my current BIOS settings with 1506.
CPU Freq 300
DRAM DDR2 800
CPU Vcore 1.3250
FSB Term 1.2
MCH 1.55
ICH Chipset Volt 1.05
CPU Internal Thermal Control Auto

Config DRAM by SPD - Disabled
4-4-4-12 timings
DRAM ECC Mode Disabled
Hyper Path 3 Disabled
DRAM Throttling Threshold AUTO

Could modifying any of those settings do anything? I tried enabling Hyper Path 3 but the computer wouldn't boot up so I set it to AUTO. I don't know how ECC mode or the DRAM Throttling Threshold works so any tips on modifying some settings in the bios that I would benefit from would be appreciated.

Right now I currently run Avast as my virusware. The main things sucking up ram that I see are svghost.exe, ashserv.exe RTHDCPL .exe, ASRC.exe DLLML.exe just a few processes I can see in the windows task manager that are suckin up some memory. But having 2 gig of ram would that really affect it? I could trying running a virus scan of the computer if ya think that might help.

Maybe I should try SpeedUpmyPC 3.0 lol I just saw an add

You should probably run a virus scan at least once a week. Also, get Ad-Aware and run that after the virus scan.

That should help a lot.

I believe it's the Ad-Aware personal that's free.

Your first problem is running Media Center, it's useless unless you use it for a media center, and then I'd still use Pro. Try the trial of Home or XP Pro and see if that helps.

Second, you have an IDE hard drive. That is going to be very very slow for any OS loading. I would suggest getting one (or a pair for RAID 0) of the newest Seagates. They are $75 for 250gb and are nearly as fast as raptors, two would be faster than a single one.

Is that one of the hardrives your talkin about? The 7200.10 ones that are out. How does the RAID work anyways thats still one thing I have yet to work with yet.
