Howdy,

I have searched the different OCN forums and although there are many "modding logs" and build logs here, I have not yet found many build logs and MODs done to the newer CORSAIR case ---the 300R.

I recently purchased this case and transplanted my 8 month old PC build into it and have instantly loved it. It has a very industrial and simple streamlined look that since day one has made me think it would be a great high quality case for some seriously cool MODS and powerful machine builds.

This thread is for fellow owners and fans to post pictures of their builds, mods, and possible ideas (either completed, in progress, or for the future) of their machines in the 300R chasis. The purpose is to help build the log of possibilities of this case so that other potential users and current users can gain more options for the use of the 300R.

*note: this thread is not meant to be a copy of or duplication of other threads that are open to discussion and posts about the 300R, but simply a more concentrated location for people to not have to sift through countless pages of possibly other discussions and pics of other chasis that they aren't seeking ideas for.

I encourage you to visit the following links and post in the other 300R related threads as any contributions to any arena is always a positive contribution to the OCN community

I havent't gotten to do any MODs to my 300R case yet, but here are some of the ideas I have for the future (money permitting as I am in college currently):

1. Watercooling-- I would likely use 2x alphacool single 120mm monsta 80 mm thick radiators
One in the front, one on the rear exhaust along with an alphacool cpu block a bay or cylinder res. with a swiftech 655b pump. I like green and blue as colors so either one may be used in the color scheme

2. Vinyl wrapping the case exterior and parts of the interior
3. Replace my window that has fan grills in it with a solid smoked acrylic window
4. Create a shroud from black plexi wrapped in vinyl for the power supply and part of the res. (if a cylinder and the pump)
5. Add some black mnpctech handles to the top for easier portability (i travel home a decent bit, and the machine has to come with me of course

***I'm a big fan of the c70 case as well as the 300R. I agree some of the above mention mods may be easier in that case, I like the smaller form factor, exteriro look, and price point of the 300R better for now so that is the case I'm looking forward to complete these MODS on

So here are some pictures of my build in the 300R as it currently sits:

Howdy, 300r here. Love the case. Great cooling, though I am running an additional 5 fans. Only mod I'm planning is to somehow shoehorn a Corsair H100 cooler in the top fan mounts with as little modification as possible. I think I have enough room with my mobo. I am going to have to move my DVD drive down a bay. Doing it this weekend. Will post results.

Good to have you on the thread! Sounds like that'd be doable to fit the H100. One thing though if you dont mind the look of it.....

depending on if you have all the fans and other things for your mod yet, something I've considered was mounting the h100 to my case roof using the obvious 120 mm fan holes on the rad, then mount some high cfm and good static pressure 140mmm fans on the roof outside and push air down into the case through the rad and use the front as exhausts ( maybe the new corsair 140 fans, I just like the way they look lol). And then I would use that koolance fan shroud in the pic to put on top of the case to make it look good and hide the fans. I think that fan shroud would fit the industrial look but would maybe change the overall lines of the case.

Just an idea I've contemplated and thought Id share. Either way looking forward to your rig update and mod

just randomly stumbled on this thread. i just recently built my pc with this case about a month ago. still tweaking everything and have to organize the wires a little on the inside. nice thing about having the version without the window is i cant see the mess of wires even though they are nicely stored out of the way of my airflow i know i would get annoyed if i could see them.

also in the process of figuring out my fan situation and whether i want to replace the stock case fans and the stock fan on my 212 EVO for the corsair SP120 quiet editions. mainly the fan on my heatsink is the loudest part of my case but im sure having a rear exhaust that moves more air out of my case can only help over the stock one that feels like it doesnt do much in the way of being an exhaust.

will take better pics one day when im happier with everything. im glad im not obsessive about the colors of cables and stuff otherwise id go broke making everything color coordinated and sleeving the cables and stuff.

Nice build.
I figured that you improved your case adding two internal extra fans at the middle and bottom disk drive cages.
Are both 140mm fans?
Interesting, LOL.

Well, I never thought about doing this before on my 300R.
So maybe I must try to add this extra fans for better cooling, especially for my GPU.

got some new fans. SP120 quiet for heatsink and a AF120 quiet for the rear exhaust. not sure what to do with the stock rear case exhaust. but replacing the stock 212EVO fan has made my computer considerably quieter and was well worth the sacrifice of 2degrees warmer on average because the new fans are slower and move less air compared to the stock 212 fan that was pushing like 60something CFM at 35dBA

the AF120 feels like it exhausts more heat than the stock case exhaust although not a drastic improvement but i can feel air back there compared to the stock fan that barely felt like it did anything at all.

Do you have another intake fan?
If not, I would place the old fan as intake in the front or side panel locations.

Heat does rises.
So the old exahust rear fan could also work just fine as exhaust in the top.

#12 ·
i might try it as a top exhaust and have 2 total exhaust fans back there since the AF120 quiet is great but doesnt have a high amount of airflow so maybe it can help

Finally got an extension cable for my 8 pin motherboard power cable so I could run it behind the motherboard! So goodbye to that ruining the inside look of my case!

I used a rosewill 10" extension from newegg. Its working well thus far and was pretty easy to install although slightly stiff. I got a matching one for my 24 pin extension as well but I'm really not happy with it, it was insanely stiff and thus not long enough to run behind the board and hide the multicolor cable so I ended up not using it

but I did buy an NZXT HUE led light kit just a few minutes ago so hopefully this week my case will be basking in the glow of awesome new lights

Yeah I decided to add the extra fans in my last case before changing into the 300R and decided to do it again.

I've noticed it helps drop the temps for the GPU by a few degrees C under load so I feel its well worth the few minutes of effort and extra bucks for the fans. I personally really like cougar fans. My first case was a cougar evolution so when I changed to the 300R I stole the orange fans from the old case and they now reside in the corsair
wink.gif
they are both just 120 mm fans but im sure 140mm could be used.

I have only used black zip ties to mount them inside and it works fairly well and could probably be done in a better way with double side tape or an actual hard mod with screws into the case. I just chose to take the quick route and soft mod the case with the quick ties in case I ever needed to move them or change the layout
thumb.gif

So yeah basically its worth the effort and adds to the GPU cooling so try it!

hi guys, nice to see more 300r fans, great case, and everyone's rigs looks awesome , been browsing this site forever now, and havent made a post yet , saw this thread and figured id share my rig with you guys, please comment

still in the works, upgrading to 2 evga gtx 660ti FTW soond and did some light case modding with acrylic and 3m carbon fiber , looking to do some more things but running out of ideas haha (sorry for the sideways pictures

i also did this with my case, i found that the 140mm fan that came with the case in the front panel fits nicely between the hdd and the 5.25 drive bay , placed a small piece of foam board i got from a hobby store on top of the fan and it sits nicely, also used mounting tape to place 2 rectangular pieces on the top and bottom of the fan on each side to help keep it in place, and lets me slide the fan in and out for cleaning, also the foam helps with vibration and noise reduction

thanks alot! this was my first pc build EVER, use to be every 3 years i would go to best buy and pick up a new pc , but this time deiced to put out the time and effort and do the research, after countless forums and youtube videos i was confident enough to put together one myself.

I agree with what edsai posted to your thread ninja. I'll say this I had the same debate you are currently in and I chose the 300R with a window and I'm not disatisfied at all. I think it's a great case, I heard good things about corsair and they did not dissappoint me.

The 300R appears to have a larger window, and if you are looking for a downsize in case size the 300r is slightly smaller but I can vouch that there is plenty of build room in it. I made a move from a larger case to the 300R and now I love how easy it is to move the PC compared to before. I think the 300R has a better and more well thought out look than the Antec 1100 ( i don't really like the bunch of mesh looking plastic on its front) plastic front mesh was part of why I fell out of love with my first and larger cougar evolution case. After looking again at videos and pics of the antec I just think it looks a bit cheaply made.

That being said the 1100 does have grommets( but look cheap) and larger fans stock from factory. I don't like that the 1100 has so many HDD drive bays ( but if you need that its a plus) but I wanted better airflow through the case which i believe the 300R would have due to not having a huge fixed drive cage top to bottom. I also don't like the fan cut out behind the cpu cut out on the 1100, it feels pointless because there is no need for cooling there and I would leave it unused and I think thats ugly and a place for dust to just come in unessesarily. The cut out on the back panel may give more cabling space but personally I had no problem with the 300R because there is plenty of room and I prefer the flat flush look of its side panels ( The back panel on mine has been tricky to get on every now and then and I don't know why). The 300R does have a very large CPU cut out so accessing the cpu cooler is not a problem.

There are links to the reviews at the top of this thread so take a look at those vids and it may help, also searching antec 1100 on youtube brings up several for that case too.

Honestly it comes down to basically the aesthetics your looking for as well as size of case and window and how streamline you like it to look ( I feel the 300R wins that). I hope that helps, let us know what you decide

#24 ·
agreed , since im not using any side panel fans i would much rather have one without holes, but i guess you could always replace the side window with a acrylic , i got my acrylic at a hardware store , did a rough fitting with some cardboard first and them got the measurements, they actually cut the pieces out for me which was nice. Also just got my GTX 660 ti installed

I just bought one of these last week.
My first was missing the included front dust filter, and now my new one has stripped PCI-E bracket thumbscrews. Corsair has been amazing in thier tech support and is SCHEDULED to mail me some
smile.gif

I am excited about my next AMD build (Piledriver) to be housed in this beast. I got it for 67$ CAD ALL IN. So no qualms. Only wish that the side panels SWUNG open like my older Antec 300. Will post pics of build when its assembled
smile.gif

>> If people have, and I assume the affirmative, what types of dust filters have you used to cover the top 140mm's and the side 120mm's? Where did you order them? Im in Canada, so shipping is an issue.
I have a lot of dust in my room...and my current dust filters get swamped after a couple days sometimes...so not having them over open grills would be a bad idea.

Thoughts?

The most important locations to have dust filters are for the intake fans (front panel, side panel and the bottom location).
The top and rear locations are for the exhaust fans.

The 300R comes with dust filters at the front and the bottom locations.

There's dust filters like these from Akasa.
