Borderlands 2 with Hybrid PhysX - Page 20

post #191 of 334
mschmunk try bumping your gpu memory to 1000MHz and setting them to 1024/64 since your card has 2GB
The HeapSize and CacheSize should help more with preventing slow downs in high physx areas than increasing overall performance.

can you elaborate further? which way do you tweak them? I get hiccuping / pausing sometimes with physx on high.

Basically those settings adjust how much of the card's memory is used for physx. The settings will depend on the amount of memory your physx card has. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
For cards with 512MB
PhysXGpuHeapSize=256
PhysXMeshCacheSize=16
For cards with 1GB
PhysXGpuHeapSize=512
PhysXMeshCacheSize=32
For cards with 2GB
PhysXGpuHeapSize=512
PhysXMeshCacheSize=64

Please read earlier pages in this thread (post#s 169, 171, and 172), for suggested settings.

new patch

Improved PhysX fluid rendering quality at high resolutions.

might help?

Can someone help me with this. I did this and it was amazing with borderlands 2. But now when I do anything else it uses my 9800 gt i got off of ebay for $34 instead of my $150 radeon 6850. I know this by looking at gpu-z load on my second monitor. While having 2 vid cards is useful for rendering videos with gpu accelleration it sucks for minecraft. The worst part is my fps isn't that much lower. How do I make it so the vid card only does physx?

Never thought about that one before. Need some more info:

I'm guessing you're not using the hybridiz method, instead are using GenL's Physx mod?
Do you have your 6850 installed in the top slot of your MB?
Does your bios have a Primary GPU setting where you can configure PCI-ex1 or PCI-ex 2?
I assume only the HD 6850 is hooked up to both your monitors, you dont use a cable from the 9800GT going to the second monitor, do you?
Are you using the Nvidia Control Pannel? (I dont use it since I use hybidiz method, so I only use the Nvida Driver.)

In Nvidia Control Pannel under Manage 3D settings on the Program settings tab do you see a place that says "Select the prefrerred graphics processor for this progam:" If so, you can set a prefered GPU for each program here.

Im thinking If you plugged the 2nd monitor into the 9800GT, that card should drive that monitor, and the 6850 should drive the main monitor.

One quick and dirty way might be to disable the GPU in the hadware profile.

Let me know your setup and hope this might help . . .

Amazing with BL2? Then you have succeded with something most of us have not! wink.gif Also... If it was amazing with the Radeon 6850, you where using the CPU for PhysX. Radeon does NOT do PhysX.

The 9800GT should work fine for PhysX if only BL2 would have been programmed in a way that allowed for the hybrid physX solution to work out, but aparently it does not at 100%.

You have no use for 2 vid cards when showing videos with GPU accelleration. The very few media players that actually use a good implementation of GPU accelleration does not use both GPU's, so you still only use one GPU at a time (Given you're running Nvidia + Radeon).

2 vid cards for Minecraft is also totally worthless. To be able to really utilize 2 GPU's in minecraft I'm sure you would have to run a SLI/Xfire-solution and a resolution of 8.640p or something. Also... You do know Minecraft does not use PhysX right?!

I would recommend that you read through the whole thread regarding getting this to work and even if you do. You won't get 100% satisfactory solution... Unfortunately!!

Hey all, I'm planning on using a 580GTX for physx with my 7970 just for this game. Do I have to use old drivers for both cards or just for the nvidia one?
Currently using 12.11b, very happy with them and would like to continue using them if possible since this is the only game I play a lot that requires physx...
Thx
