Borderlands 2 with Hybrid PhysX - Page 3

Just tested it WITHOUT my PhysX card; turns out that my 3930K @ 4.2Ghz can do PhysX better than a dedicated GT640 in BL2 eek.gif

{On Medium PhysX}
The GT640 would load up to about 45-50% when particles etc got insane, and it would cause a drop in FPS, from a solid 60 to 45or50, but it was noticable.

Without the GT640, I'm getting slightly increased CPU load, but the FPS stays at *almost* 60FPS, drops to 58ish occasionally, which isn't noticable, to me. I let numerous Bullymong Slingers throw clay pigeons at me for a good few minutes to fill the screen with chunks of physics, and it didn't hiccup biggrin.gif

Anyone with a decent i7 CPU might want to try it; to enable the greyed out PhysX settings, move or rename the PhysXDevice.dll from the BL2 binaries directory.

LOL. I was just about to tell you 3930k for PhysX . I have been using my 3930k for PhysX since the game came out and it has worked great! Tip: PhysX seems to run the best with HT turned on and a high OC.

Other people I have talked to with 3770k, 3570k were getting decreased performance results. Looks like a 6-core is need to run the game + high physX and have a positive gaming performance outcome. This is the first time I have seen a major advantage to having a 6-core CPU for gaming thumb.gif Hopefully more multicore gaming applications to come soon!

A few people have already tried to use the 9800 for PhysX in this game with the 7970 and it slows down your performance greatly. GTX 460 or higher is recommended for high PhysX in this game.

After further testing, I still get silly slowdowns to 35 / 40 FPS when there's blood or fluid goo on-screen, seems to be really badly optimised, with either GPU or CPU PhysX frown.gif
Swolern, can you see if the same thing happens? Try shooting something on a hill, preferably, so the blood is affected by gravity as well. I've got my 3930K @ 4.5Ghz, same problemo.
For now, I've turned PhysX back to low, I can max it out with forced 16xAA on my rig, at a solid 60FPS. I fear once I get further into the game, the fluid/blood will only increase, and it'll pull my FPS down.

Maybe a patch can solve it, there's no real reason that a small pool of fairly inanimate blood from one skag should drag FPS down more than a screen chock full of cluster grenade particles eek.gif

Im gaming in 5760x1080 in 3d so my framerate is only 40-60fps continuous. I went to the area were it spued a bunch of sewage out of the toilets with a ton of high PhysX liquids splashing and dripping down. Avg framerate is 50fps in that area. But no FPS drops when liquid came out. All other settings maxed.

OK I got hybrid physx working, and it'll be trucking along just fine when all of the sudden the physx GPU (8800 Ultra) usage spikes, the game locks up, and then physx stops running. looks like this (GPU 1: 6950, GPU2: 8800 Ultra):


And I can't figure out why - everything looks AMAZING, good FPS, and i'll be just standing there not shooting and making a bunch of particles jump, and bam. it dies.

What about blood or a goo barrel? I can't find a toilet to test lachen.gif

If you're saying that fluids don't affect your FPS, then I need to see what's going on with my system.

Hmm.. I reinstalled BL2, and then the nVidia PhysX system (because Mass Effect 3 was lagging on head explosions after I updated rolleyes.gif), and now PhysX is available in the BL2 Launcher options, depsite the fact I removed my GT640 to test this eek.gif

Weirdness.

found that if I don't have any monitoring apps open (gpuz or MSIAB), physx runs for much, much longer. eventually the problem still happens though.
