geforce 7300gt barely overclocks + problems

Thread Starter
I bought a new geforce 7300 and have some experience overclocking. I just also bought a new vga cooler and placed it on the card as well. The CPU corre temp is 38C. This is already at my max clock. Doesnt this mean something is wrong with the card or with my settings? Also when playing a game i notice the game will freeze for 15 seconds, then i notice all of my OC settings are reset to the default settings (core threshold slowdown?) . I'm using coolbits and nvidia to OC my card. Also tried RivaTuner, which prevents the resetting of the clock speed, but still will not let me move up in speed. If my GPU is 38C then i should have PLENTY of room to really OC this card... what is holding me back?? Everytime i run the test it says the test failed, or the system hangs. I'm currently at 475mhz core 850mhz memory. Even more unusual when i run rivatuner it claims the max memory speed is around 450 or 500 mhz??? When nvida's OC tool says i'm at 800+. Please guys I could really use some advice as I'm really stumped on this, and after buying the new VGA cooler and seeing super low temps yet no more OC potential (it didnt help change my clock speed) I could really use some advice from those more experienced than I.

anyone?

I had the same problem where the game would freeze for a minute then clock back down. The only way to fix that would be to lower the OC. Maybe that card or chip is just a crappy OCer.

Hi, and welcome to the forums. In order to help you better, could you please fill in your system specs in your user cp. Thanks

"Maybe that card or chip is just a crappy OCer."

i hope not, thats why i bought the GT version...

Also i'm dissapointed that after buying the cooling fan i see the GPU temp is super low, but i still cannot overclock anymore. Also why is the system auto-resetting the clock speeds?? Be nice if anyone knows how to prevent this and force in tested speeds that cannot be reverted back.

gt doesn't necessarily mean good overclocking. It is just a way to classify it as faster than a 7300gs. If I were you, i would upgrade to a 7600gt, with a volt mod, those things fly! and they are very reasonably priced.

sorry didnt see ur second question. You have to uncheck the box thats says "Use these settings only until I restart my computer."

I guess kind of a silly question, but should i then lower my mem and try to shoot for as high a core clock as possible? Also shouldnt my card be alot hotter? Especailly if it is failing to test at the current posts? I want to see it hot so that i know it cannot go any further...
