geforce 7300gt barely overclocks + problems - Page 4

hey,
im new to overclocking and i wish to start my "career" so i started on an old nVidia Geforce 7300 GT. i used RivaTuner to change the default settings ( core clock: 350 Mhz, memory: 266 Mhz) to 455 Mhz and 350 Mhz respectively. then after i rebooted my computer, and wanted to play a game, a red and yellow bar appeared on the top of the screen and im assuming the computer crashed because there was no responce to the mouse or keyboard and a beep sound came once.

naturally i rebooted and went to Rivatuner to restore the default settings but the prblem still happens.

any suggestions to what i could do or what happened?

Thanks

one thing i may suggest is try rebooting the computer in safemode, to do this u must press F8 when the computer boots up if u see the windows splash screen this means you missed that menu, but when u get to that menu select the safemode option. if this is a driver issue you'll know, since in safemode you are only running he bare minimum drivers to get the OS up and running. If that is the case i suhhest reinstalling the drivers for your card, but if this still occurs this means that the gpu has sustainded damage to the GPU and theres no way to fix that. Try that first then let me know if all is well.

I agree with flash about the drivers, but if that dont work I would think power supply. BTW any notice this is 2+Yo thread?

It was the guy's first post, so maybe he didn't know any better. =P Then again, even if someone is new to this forum, they should know from prior forum experience. I'm guessing it's a young guy!

BTW, the 7300GT doesn't stand up well to abuse. I used to have one, and even stock clocked, it died on me after about 2 years. Capacitors exploded/leaked for no apparent reason, so I doubt it can physically sustain good overclocking.

Use to run my xfx 7300 gt at 450core 860 mem with 40-42c temps idle/load all day. Since it had the passive cooler I ghetto modded a fan to make it stand up on the bottom of the case to push air onto the cooler, worked great. But yeah thats as high as I could get mine to overclock without crashing.
