Best Processor under $100? (Need Single-Threaded performance) - Page 2

You can get a i3-2100 for $104.99 on Newegg right now until 9/19. Tho still its worth the $20 extra for the huge performance gain. Very powerful and fast cores, and HT is only going to stretch the value of the processor even more. Plus it will give you smother and higher frame rates then a FX-4100 will.

^This. I would say wait for piledriver which is set to release in 2-3 weeks however processors are typically a little pricier on release so just go with the i3.

Phenom II 965 ≠ Single Thread Performance. I have a 955 (same chip, with a lower stock clock) and while it's great for multithreaded applications it's not so good at single threaded applications compared to the other chips on here.

You know what'd be better than either at under $100 at Microcenter (since you can get to one)?
A Phenom II x6 1045T

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm 6 ridiculously overclockable faster-than-4100-per-clock coars for the same price. You have enough cores to do Blender, web browsing and movie watching at the same time with no lags wheee.gif

No seriously, I recommend for the price-performance win.

Get it with the 970A-UD3 for $140.... do et

6 cores, for single threaded performance? I'm an AMD guy (or was until bulldozer came out, my next build will likely be intel), but for single threaded performance they just aren't the way to go.

Number of cores doesn't really matter all that much in Single Thread. The i3 dual core has the same single thread performance (or slightly worse) than a 4 core i5. He was saying that at roughly the same price as a 4100, you get a 6 core processor that has better single thread clock for clock performance and is overclockable.

Don't listen to this guy he doesn't know what he's talking about, there are 4 real physical cores in the FX-4100.

The bulldozer design is referenced at 2 integer cores per module. So the FX-4100 was suppose to be advertised as a dual core with HT. But AMD couldn't do that since it has 4 integer cores.

It's an Ivy Bridge chip without Hyper-threading, which I will most likely disable.
I couldn't find any benchmarks on it unfortunately :\

This!

the G2120 will beat any $100 cpu at singlethread performance

my G620 is on par with my phenom at singlethread even though its 700mhz lower in clockspeed.
