I was bleeding my loop yesterday and both pumps were very hot to the touch. Is this normal? I haven't run both pumps together before but I'm assuming this is always what it's like since I have never bothered to touch my pump.

I have a Koolance 402x2 reservoir. Should I still do this? I think I saw something in another post where the heatsink kept the hot temperature in on dual-bay reservoirs.
Should I still go for this? Chances are I won't do the fan.

I have a Koolance dual pump res and my MCP35X pumps never get more than warm to the touch (80-90 F) even at full blast. Is it possible that the pumps were running dry at some point or cavitating? I would guess that would cause them to get hot.
I'm interested in this too as I have heard that temperature regulation on the MCP35X helps extend the lifespan of the pump.

Martin recommended the heat sink and a fan if possible in your setup.

I would definitely get the heatsink if it can fit on there with the reservoir. There's nothing in the way but I don't want it to keep the heat trapped. I was bleeding my loop all day so that's perhaps one reason they were both hot?

I shot Koolance an email to see what they recommend. Do you have a link for that article about heatsinks retaining heat on the res?

Consider the following way I think of it. Heat sink's purpose is to provide the path of least resistance for the heat. Heat will leave the pump and go to the heatsink. The heatsink is on the bottom of the pump, therefore, the heat is now on the bottom of the pump exposed to the air in the case. The air now absorbs the heat in the heat sink and moves it away, cooling the heat sink. The heat sink is now able to absorb more heat. A fan on the bottom of the heat sink speeds up the process.
That should allow you to answer your question.

I recommend the heatsink any time I recommend that pump, because properly utilized it can knock over 40C off the PCB temps! I believe it should be included with the pumps when you buy them, it's that important.
If you can't fit the large Swiftech heatsink, you can always try and make your own. You simply need a pair of NB/SB HS's from old MB's, trim them to fit, drill holes for the mounting areas, and buy a thermal pad for each.
Any heatsink is better than nothing.
