Need some help for my first build - Page 3

Yea I'm gonna upgrade the the HAF XM just to be sure I will still be able to use the ASUS 680 ( looks like a beast of a card). This is my final build then - only one problem. I'm about $200 over budget, anywhere I can cut back and not lose performance?

I5 3570k processor - $190
Noctua nh-u12p - $80
Gtx 680 dc2t ( DirectCUII TOP) gpu - $550
Asus p8z77-v deluxe motherboard - $300
COOLER MASTER HAF XM case- $150
Corsair vengeance ram 16gb- $90
Western digital caviar black 1tb hdd - $100
Antec 850w psu - $175
Samsung 830 series 120gb ssd -$ 120
ASUS 24X DVD Burner - $20

These prices are very rough estimates and I usually rounded up just for the "worst case scenario", but any $$$ that could be shaved off would be a huge help. Putting all my summer saving into this biggrinsmiley.gif

Get the SaberTooth for 240$, very oc'able:

Yea I'll prolly go with that motherboard and just stick with the ASUS CUII TOP 680. Would an i7 upgrade be worth it? I'm thinking not because I am planning on overclocking the i5. Could I overclock that to 4.5GHZ and be stable with my current cooling system? My ultimate goal is to have this last my a long time and maybe upgrade the gpu in a couple years. If i could OC to 4.5GHz I feel I would be set for a decent amount of time.

For gaming only no an I7 would not be worth it
As for the Asus GTX 680 CU II i can post my benchmark results if you like to se them?
Also 850 watts are a bit overkill for a single GTX 680 so you can save some there i would say get a 600 to 750 watt PSU
You can also save money on the RAM start with getting 2x4 GB of 1600 MHz

That would be great, I'd love to see how it performs. Do you have the GTX 680 CUII OC or TOP version? And would somewhere near a 750w psu be a better fit?

Your PC will only use around 450 watts on full power but always get at least 150 watts above that and more if you plan to add more in your PC so a 650-750 watts PSU would be a good choise
And last if you need to save money somewhere you can start with getting 8 GB of RAM instead of 16 GB and you can buy the OC version of the GTX 680 not the TOP version and overclock it yourself that way you can save money
I have the Asus GTX 680 OC version but i have overclocked it myself to near CU II TOP speed

wow that card performs great. Thank you for all your help. Made my first build so much easier. I wish I could express my thanks in more than these words smile.gif. I just have one more question on overclocking my cpu. With what I am planning to get now could I overlclock the i5 3570k to around 4.5ghz with the Noctua NH-U12P? Or would I need more cooling or would I just not be able to go that high. Last with just that Noctua how high could I plan on overclocking the i5 3570k? I'm only looking to overclock the cpu. Don't really want to mess with the gpu, feel like I'd mess something up with it tongue.gif
