Overclocking doesn't take any more investment on top of the card, so whatever it can do without frying is fair game.

Because comparing something with a sizeable overclock to something at stock is stupid. Of course the overclocked product is going to win. Especially when at stock they are both similar in performance.

GTX 690 is limited in performance by its voltage and the Devil 13 is limited by software but most GTX 690s should overclock a good 50-75mhz past a Devil 13 on the core and a lot more on the memory, not to mention stock the GTX 690 is still faster. So it's still winning. Not by much but it's a great effort by powercolor and my experiences with the one I had for a few days was nothing but good.

The default BIOS sucked though but who would buy it and use that anyways. OC BIOS was great. Shame the card doesn't have a full cover waterblock.

Thanks for the video from Newegg. Owned my Devil 13 for 2 weeks now. Settled in with both cores at 1175Mhz and 1675Mhz (6700 Eff.) memory overclock. 100% stable running Heaven 3.0 maxed out for 20 minutes and many other games. Core temps never go over 73C. No issues at all. Running solid. Would love another for 4 cores, but that would be total overkill and way to much cash.

Finally got hold of four Devil 13s, for our prototype 8-GPU liquid cooled workstation, doing initial OpenCL testing now;

We've had some custom nickel/copper waterblocks made up and will be fitting them shortly, hope to have 8-way scaling results next week.

Can confirm that AMD have finally fixed the 'can't disable Crossfire on dual GPU cards' bug that made the 5970 and 6990 expensive paperweights for OpenCL purposes. I like the fact that despite dissipating over 2000 watts, this machine is still whisper-quiet, due to the use of 15 low-speed 120mm fans (quad triple radiators + 3 case fans).

The Nvidia 6xx cards are pretty much useless for GPGPU, the double precision performance is non-existent and the 5xx cards are faster for even most SP tasks. Nvidia didn't even turn up to the fight for 2012 in GPGPU, as the GK110 was delayed over six months. Meanwhile the AMD Tahiti design utterly destroyed Fermi at almost all compute workloads.

EDIT : Post this was replying to seems to have disappeared, someone was saying the Nvidia 690 had higher 3DMark scores so why not use those. To be fair Nvidia used to be the gold standard in GPGPU through 2011; the Radeons were faster in some carefully-optimised vector-based kernels but for general purpose code Nvidia usually won. The Tahiti (Radeon 7970) generation changed everything.

The previous post you repsonded to was deleted as it was spam. It did not imply what you perceived at all.

As for the performance of both cards compared mine to somone elses on OCN:

3930 @ 4.8 / 7990 @ 1175 Core / 1675 Memory P17511

3770 @ 4.5 / 690 @ 1176 Core / 1594 Memory P17011

Watercooled overclocked quad-7990 build is coming together;

This is a single-loop setup, albeit a fairly complex one.
post #80 of 109
LOL, that is crazy! Hey are you going to run a split parallel/serial on the 8 blocks since its a single loop? That was probably a redundant question heh.
