Recommendations for PSU? (Under $100)

Hey, my CX650 just crapped out in less than a week of buying it and ive been told that this is pretty much a glorified 500w PSU, As power supplies is about the only thing i don't know much about, I will leave it to you guys to recommend me some good PSUs for my guild.

i5 3570K
Sapphire 7950
Asrock Z77 Extreme4
8GB 1600MHz
2 120gb SSDs
CD/DVD Drive
4 Fans

My guess is that a decent 600w can handle all of this, but really want like a 750w just for the head room and for some future insurance.

Anyone have any recommendations for under $100? I was thinking about either the TX750 or the Antec 750

Would like to buy it from either Newegg or Amazon.

CX650? Doesn't exist, as far as I know. There's a new and somewhat unknown CX750, but you're probably talking about CX600 V2. That system would run on the CX430 V2, so just get an RMA.

If you really want something new and better, keep the CX600 V2 replacement as a backup.

You can just get a Rosewill Capstone 450W for $60:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182066

If you want some overkill wattage, room for Crossfire and a whole lot more, modular cables, Capstone 750-M is a better deal, at $90 (promo ends 9/19):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182264

These are definitely better than TX750, a little better than TX750 V2, definitely better than Antec Earthwatts Green 750W, better than Antec HCG750, and definitely worse in some ways but better in others than the expensive Antec HCP750 that you're probably not talking about.

Ahh sorry yes i meant the CX600. I mostly just want some headroom for another 7950 and a custom watercool loop. So pretty much the only thing ill be adding would probably be another 7950 and a pump.

But thank you on that recommendation, i actually LOVE the idea of modular which is something i over looked.

I had a Corsair TX750 that worked very well. If you don't care about it being non modular I'd look at that. Good prices on TigerDirect and eBay if you look enough

Decided with the Rosewill CAPSTONE 750-M due to great price, perfect wattage, and a huge factor was it being Modular. I know to take a grain of salt with all reviews, but it seemed that most reviews for the CAPSTONE series were all great. So thanks for the recommendation guys!

Antec HCG 620 is best choice.

Your system uses less power than mine. I have a 2500k and HD6950 using max 400W OCed

If you want headroom you might want 800-850W for crossfire.

Hook up your system to a multimeter

Linx + 3D stress  test >>> measure watts

Add the HD7950 overclocked. >>> measure watts

>>> calculate the difference between last two values and add it to the last value. Add at least 100-250W to play safe that's the wattage you need.

You're going to get a whole lot more than that- good things that is. thumb.gif

Here is a post I just made recently about the Capstone 750-M- I hope you find it informative. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Its a Superflower built (Golden King?), 80+ Gold, semi-modular power supply. Performance is excellent- it is a little short of Seasonic X / Corsair AX, but the price-performance ratio is unbeatable in its class. It is semi-modular as the 20+4-pin and 2x 4+4-pin ATX12V/EPS12V are fixed.

Going for $89.99 shipped on Newegg ($20 coupon expires TODAY)

Here is what some people have to say about it:

The TechPowerUp! review said the biggest flaw was the price- at $159.99 MSRP it is indeed a hard sell- but $89.99? Easy biggrin.gif.
JonnyGuru reviewed the nonmodular version- what were his biggest caveats? You guessed it, price and modularity. Well this one is "at least semi-modular" and costs $40 less than the sample at review time.

That system won't need anything over 450w to run. unless you wan't to do CF with the 7950 in the future you are safe with a 450w psu. Even with CF configuration you won't need anything over 550w

I will be CF the 7950 but i will also be going watercooled. So will be adding a pump or two. Plus id rather have the peace of mind for the headroom
