[CNN] You won't need a drivers license by 2040 - Page 8

Why are you online right now? Go drive.

I think it's the sense of freedom that alot of us (Who enjoy driving) cherish. It's a feeling you can't get unless you're directly controlling the vehicle. The same feeling you get when you first get your license.

I don't, no. But i do know it's largely automated, at least during flight, perhaps not so on takeoff or landing. The skies arn't nearly as congested as the roads, though.

I won't even drive vehicles that are automatic. America is different to most of europe. Here manual shift is more commonplace and frankly, i think with good reason. Automatic vehicles and cruise control encourage the drivers attention to sway from the task at hand, increasing risk. They're boring as hell to drive and take away from the entire experience.

I'll never be comfortable with fully automatic vehicles, nevermind those with just automatic gears, abs or cruise control - anything that takes away my ability to control my vehicle i'm wary of. So for the most part, i almost always drive older vehicles, anything that has little to no computer intervention.

I trust my judgement and value of life more than some artificial intelligence.

I'd imagine there would be places where you can drive still. I personally welcome this with open arms, it will make everything more efficient and is nothing but a benefit to society.

You will still be able to drive those- on a closed track for fun. Just general driving on the road however will most likely be outlawed, do to how dangerous it is. Driving is the most dangerous thing the average person does in a day. Heck, it's usually more dangerous for a soldier to drive down to the airport to get shipped into a warzone then it is to be there and not driving.

Sure, for a nice fat premium too i bet. That feeling of freedom wouldn't really be there on a closed track, either. Not for me i'm afraid.

I've personally not had a single accident in my entire driving career, and my father, who is now 65, has only had one. And this part of the country is well known for dangerous roads.

Yes, driving is dangerous, but you need to approach it with a healthy attitude, and sadly, most people don't. It's likely those people who find driving boring that can't focus on it in the first place. Licenses are far too easy to obtain.

I could probably warm up to the idea of fully automatic vehicles if it was commonplace, but it doesn't mean i would be happy surrendering my license and freedom. Not in the slightest. But then again i also come from the countryside, and i know congestion is far worse in the cities where, i assume, most of you guys come from.

The times we live in when driving is one of the most dangerous things the avg person can do. We live in good times. For these new cars to work I warrant a lot of Roads need to be changed. They will probably all be connected in a system where they can interact with each other apart from GPS. I think even 2040 is too soon.We still dont have a answer to current fuel shortage.

I enjoy driving. Will not make a difference to me though as I will be dead long before 2040.

This is exactly it, I wouldn't even have a licence if one of my previous jobs didn't require me to have it. A vehicle is simple a point a to point b situation for me nothing more.
