does apple allow exchanging laptops seperately from the accesories you purchased with it?

Basically, I'm worried I might need to return an apple laptop. But I don't want to return and get new accesories as well, because that counts as a customized order. Customized orders entail later ship dates.

So do you think apple will allow me to exchange the laptop but keep the accesory (thunderbolt to ethernet converter?)

If you beg enough, you can get an advance replacement. You will need a case manager to do it though. I went through 4 MBP Retina's before I got one without bad screen bleeding/brightness issues (4th one is perfect). Each was was shipped to me before returning the old one. I told them that I was using mine for graduate computer science research and couldn't give it up for two weeks while a new custom order was filled (I really am doing work requiring OS X and 16GB of memory, and even 16GB is just barely enough). They were very helpful and understanding in getting me taken care of. They actually offered me some sort of customer appreciation gift, though I don't know what it is yet.

did you get a samsung screen? do you know the command to check for it?

lgs screen users are reporting high rates of intense image retention

Yep. First was an LG that was damaged by FedEx in transit (cosmetic damage, dented case and hole in packaging). The next was a Samsung that was noticeably cooler in color and about 2 "notches" brighter, but had a loose fitting bottom and erratic fans. Third had bad backlight bleed in the corner (Samsung screen), and the fourth was perfect (Samsung again). I'd say it's a bit excessive for first gen problems in a $2000 laptop, but to Apple's credit, they have been incredibly accommodating to me and my school schedule.

I'v yet to see image retention though.

I'v yet to see image retention though.

yeah, there's a thread on the apple forums about the ir. basically, it can show up immediately or after a long period of time, and supposedly only affects lg screens. i didn't check my screen that carefully for issues like backlight bleed because i was just happy i got a samsung (seems like 70% of people get lg screens)
