ASUS P5LP-LE - Core Duo compatible?

Thread Starter
I recently was offered an e6600 Core Duo 2 cpu for a cheap price. I am going to buy it, but my current motherboard isn't compatible with it according to a friend.

My mother board is an ASUS P5LP-LE (Lithium) with an Intel i945P Chipset.

Is this true?

If true, I'll have to buy a new motherboard. If anybody has suggestions for one, please shoot. Motherboards arent the top of my pc knowledge. Keep in mind, I do ALOT of 2d/3d/video editing, and power and expandibility are key. Also I wouldnt like to spend more then 250$ if possible.

Thanks.

Ok, that motherboard isn't on Asus' website so I'm guessing it is discontinued and hence does not support Core2. And anyway, not many of the 945P chipset motherboards do.

Yeah, I couldnt find it either on the Asus Site. Its really irritating that they wouldnt list it, since its only about a year old. Maybe 1 and 1/2 years.

If anybody knows for sure, please post. I'd also like to hear any suggestions for new mobos.

Thanks.

Newer motherboards for what range?

Low End: GA-965P-S3 from gigabyte. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128017

Mid-range: Asus P5B Deluxe http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131045

High-end: Asus Striker Extreme (Newegg doesn't stock yet)

HOWEVER, since you have an X1900XTX, perhaps the P5B Deluxe is a good motherboard since it supports crossfire.

Yeah, Ill be buying a new case as well. Thanks. lol

Its funny how one upgrade can quickly turn into a complete overhaul, and before you know it, youve spent way more then you bargained for.

lol

Yes your motherboard is compatible with core 2 duos

the motherboard supports the following

Core 2 Duo E6000 Series
Core 2 Duo E4000 Series
Pentium E2000 series
Pentium 4 6x1 series
Celeron D 300 series

this is the information i got from HP because my compaq presario has a ASUS P5LP-LE,and i went out and bought a E6850 3.0ghz Core 2 duo,a Nvidia 9600 GT
and a extra 512mb ddr2 to put in my pc,all woring flawlessly.

the only complaint i have about the motherboard is although it states it supports 4gb of ddr2,i cannot get it to work with anymore than 1.5gb.

You could not be running on a P5LP-LE Lithium board since the E6850 Core 2 Duo has a FSB speed of 1333 MHz, while the Lithium motherboard only supports 1066 Mhz.

There are several variants of the P5LP-LE. I believe that you are running a P5LP-LE Leonite board, which supports 1333 Mhz FSB.

I am trying to find out which CPUs my Lithium motherboard supports. According to spec, it should not support Core 2 Duos but the spec seems to be incorrect. See this thread.
