Background noise (new USB headset)

Thread Starter
Hi!
I just bought and received Cyborg F.R.E.Q 5 which are great, but I have one problem. The problem is that they are making such an extremely annoying background noise, much like the backgrund noise of a mic or the sound you hear when you turn speaker volume to max. When I have my mic on I can hear my self talk, but this also make the background noise even more annoying and louder. I have tried connecting the USB in many different slots but every time the noise pops up. I've also tried the headset on my mac and it made the same background noise. I did try it with a 3.5 jack though (you can use both 3.5 jack and USB with the headset, but the mic only works with the USB I think), and it work much better, no background noise then (this was on my mac).
Can't seem to find any driver either, any help guys?

I'm pretty sure it's nothing wrong with my headset, but there might be.
Please help!
Guarantee +rep for the person who have a fix!

Sucks that you bought a headset too. Too bad you didn't read up on headsets.

At least you learned, right?

However, ultimately your problem is likely your onboard sound. It's trash.

This is actually a known issue. I've had this problem too.

Go into recording devices --> Recording --> Properties under the microphone you're using --> Untick "Listen to this Device"

It seems like a stupid suggestion, but if you haven't triple checked it, do it smile.gif

This is a good suggestion. Basically there are only a few things that could be going on here.

1. It is picking up and playing back the ambient sound from your mic.
2. The USB is electrically noisy either on your system or the controller the headset uses.
3. Your sound card is electrically noisy or has some setting incorrectly set.

I believe that headset allows you to use the USB or 3.5mm jacks. Use the jacks NOT the USB and make check the "Listen to this Device" setting that OkanG suggested. Your noise should go away.

As I wrote before, there is only one jack, therefore I do not believe the mic will work with the jack cable attached.

Thank you all for replying, will try out everything when I get home today!

The "Listen to this device" were already unticked. I can still hear pretty much white noise.
I don't know what to do, I don't want to return it either because the sound is very good and I bought it from a company that has their storage in France and I live in Scandinavia..
Any other suggestions? Is there anything I can do in BIOS or anything at all??
If it helps I can say the the white noise is the same either the sound is at 0 or at 100, I must mute it to get it away.

What about Skype? I believe Skype has something like that too. If you have it, try closing Skype through Task Manager.

My Siberia V2 did the exact same thing, but it magically went away without me noticing it. Maybe you could try contacting customer support too? And of course the dummy one, check if you have all newest drivers installed. Maybe if there's any software out for the headset, some feature in that is supposed to be turned off.

It's almost definitely USB electrical noise. USB powered audio devices will always have this issue, unless they have an isolated power circuit, which is expensive and most companies won't bother.
Not much you can do about it, return the headset and get a PCI/PCI-E soundcard and a headset that uses standard 3.5mm plugs. No more noise. thumb.gif

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's USB electrical noise, because I have tried anything now. I even Updated my BIOS and the USB drivers to see if my outdated MB could be the reason, it wasn't. I have also contacted technical support about this. I'll see how it goes from after I get the answer from them, whether I return it or not.
Thank you all for trying to help, I really appreciate it!

I'm in a similar situation, my USB DAC is giving a ton of electrical noise with my new PC (wasn't nearly as bad with the older system), so now I'm looking at buying a new DAC with an external PSU... lol, the things we do for technology...
