The first person to say "what about gpgpu compiting" shall be shot in the face. Grandma, at best, only wants to play HD video. No one who matters to the consumer-level bottom line uses gpgpu.

then grandma doesn't even need an iSeries, i think a c50 should do just fine, which i think would be much cheaper than an i series.

anyway, crucial point is missing. Drivers! as much as people complain about drivers for nvidia and amd in reality there pretty solid. How quickly will intel react to a driver patch for a game on PC? vs nvidia or amd? how will they manage 3D, eyefintiy solutions, crossfire? etc.. what about the thousands of game profiles already in existing drivers for games people still like to play even if there 10 years old. How well do you think their Linux support will be when steam arrives (not forgetting desura btw)

i think intel will maybe take the very low end and some very decent mobile share but for the top end it will be a very long time (in the tech world) before they could start to be a viable option.

I wasnt trying to start a flame war. I just hate the idea of one company tring to take over everything. Which is why i hate apple with a passion and will never buy their products.

Exactly, glad you realize this

How is Haswell going to pose a threat if its just tweaked Ivy Bridge graphics which still suck compared to the AMD Trinity solution? Last time I checked Ivy i7 k graphics are barely in 5670 territory. They give i5 non K and i3/Pentium users (Most laptop/desktops) the shaft with graphics that are on par with a 5450 which is the grandchild of the 3470 with no real gaming improvements except for like 5-10 frames, Then once again your back on 4250 IGP gaming performance which is basically the 6600gt desktop card with a DX11 tag that is meaningless since its sitting on a 32bit bus when u need 128 for gaming. 8 years and we still can't get away from 6600gt performance for mainstream IGP's. Heck maybe I am being generous as I remember Doom 3 playing much better on a 6600gt than a 4250 or HD 2000. I am not ready to give Intel credit when it comes to graphics when their track record has proven otherwise for 8 years.

AMD is the only one who realized this trend(too late though) and noticed people would rather have a good cpu and good graphics over a great cpu with horrible graphics like Intel pushes out every single year. Intels dream plan is to push 8800gt performance on the public for another 5 years and save them a 100 million in R@R since they don't wanna spend an extra 5-10 bucks a laptop and give a good mid range gpu solution to their customer base.. If you think Haswell or its tock will have anything more than 8800gt level graphic you are dead wrong. That is why I hate this article, as he implies "uber low power gaming performance" is going to be on the Haswell die and then kill AMD and Nvidia in one quick swoop.

The video above demonstrates the Llano Mobile APU's vs Intels Mobile Sandy Bridge.

Both of which aren't really relevant when it comes to Haswell. And you're missing the point. The iGP in Haswell will be more than enough for any mainstream consumer so AMD can tout higher iGP performance all it wants, it won't convince the majority of people to buy their chips

Exactly like CPU performance has been since the Core 2 Duo and Athlon64, it'll be down to battery life and nothing else more.

This. And it's 128 Mb of *on package* ram. Ever run an L3 cache benchmark and compared it to ddr3? Yeah, I think AMD should be worried.

The first person to say "what about gpgpu compiting" shall be shot in the face. Grandma, at best, only wants to play HD video. No one who matters to the consumer-level bottom line uses gpgpu.

AMD has had sideport memory before (790/890GX chipsets), it certainly won't be as fast as L3, I'd be surprised if it was any faster than ordinary DDR3 by itself, it will most likely just be onboard DDR3 which would have bettery latency and..not much else.

You'd be surprised how many teenagers and businesses use photoshop, which does use GPGPU extensively; business users in general are a far bigger market than Grandma users.

I imagine that within a year of new consoles launching and hitting the mainstream, current gen IGPs will be inadequate for PC gaming again.

This! Intels drivers are adequate for general use but pretty meh for games.

haswell's performance will probably do very well for the average consumer, i'm sure they'll have to step it up for when 4k res becomes the standard. that being said, there's no way in hell i'd abandon discreet gpus. discreet everything is always better (if you know what i mean).
