I'm a little confused why CPU-Z shows 12GB and the BIOS not.

This is probably the stupidest thing I have ever seen. I'm extremely confused.

So I got it to change from 4GB to 8GB again in BIOS (which reflects on Windows)...

I continued to pull the sticks out and put them back in throughout the night. Slot B1 still doesn't show RAM but CPU-Z does. It's now showing in CPU-Z as Triple channel.

EDIT: I just tried loosening the waterblock as well as confirming the CPU power connections are secure in the motherboard. Not sure what else I can try? CPU-Z still showing...

If anyone else has comments it would be greatly appreciated.

If I have a chance this weekend or something I will probably drain the damn thing again (sigh) and reseat the CPU. I don't know how this affects the RAM slots so anyone chiming in would be great.

Can someone please explain to me how the BIOS can detect less RAM than CPU-Z?

Here's an update for those who can help.

I tested each stick of RAM in slot A1. All sticks tested out fine and the computer booted properly with the stick. Same goes for slot C1, as I had expected.

I put a single stick into slot B1, however, and I received the following LED code on the motherboard display in rotating order:

68, 04, EA, 01

According to the ASUS manual, here is what they mean:

68: PCI host bridge initialization
04: System is entering S3 sleep state
EA: S3 Resume Boot Script Error
01: System is entering S1 sleep state

It then starts over again with 68 and continues the cycle.

Can someone decrypt these for me? Is this something I will be able to troubleshoot or is this a physical error? CPU-Z still shows 12GB...

I will note to you that when I had my issue with bent pins I would sometimes get No POST results with nonsensical POST Codes as well. I experienced your other symptoms as well.

I suggest that you look at the pins closely when you take off the block. If you are really lucky, then you may be able to use a jeweller's screwdriver to straighten the pins (if that is the issue).

This is a thread I had at Extreme Systems. There was one reply with several helpful suggestions. You may find it helpful.

Thanks Proton. Very useful I will use that as a reference.

If anyone understands the concept of CPU-Z and how it works, can I at least get an explanation as to why this program shows 12GB but the BIOS doesn't? That literally doesn't make any sense to me. Bent pins on the CPU? Sure...that can affect the RAM stick not being detected. But why does CPU-Z detect it?
It may be that it can be detected, but not usable due to lack of complete contact.
