Some of the original PS3 had better specs than the current PS3 SKUs
and what's that Dust 514 DLC include? I thought it was F2P
They weren't faster, just support a few extra features that nobody ever uses. The only good thing is I think they had PS2 emulation or something, now just PS1.

I don't understand this move. I'd rather have a fat or slim PS3 and this new one isn't any cheaper. What the heck?
I just think the price is too steep considering what the games costs.

I like the original PS3 design the most but nothing will compare to the orignal PS - that was so awesome biggrin.gif

Unless this "new" PS3 costs like £120 it's useless. My slim PS3 does just fine and my PS2 lives right next to it. IMO console or not if it gets a refresh Sony should at least do something decent with it, extra RAM, faster clocked GPU. Might encourage people to replace their current PS3 then. Stop wasting resources and time on the PS3 Sony its as good as its going to be, get the PS4 out.

backwards compatible? I would love to replace my fatty only if*

NOPE, what is the mf point then? there is no reason for this. Backward Compatability or stop wasting money on re introducing this system

You guys should learn to read threads.

1.) Lower cost for Sony.
2.) Allows Sony to more easily lower the price of the PS3 in the future.
3.) More power efficient.
4.) EVERY console manufacturer has done this, for years, it's proven to help with profits and sales.

A better question would be, why wouldn't they do this?

I don't get it. Unless this new redesign is drastically cheaper for Sony to manufacture, it seems like the engineering and development costs required to redesign the thing would be greater than a meager production savings.

It's not like the 360 where they HAD to keep revisioning motherboard/cpu/gpu because the things kept croaking with RROD. To my knowledge the PS3 fat or slim never had such widespread fatal problems.

(FYI - no hate about 360, I'm on my THIRD one. Obviously I was silly enough to pony up for the system cost twice).

My issue is it looks cheaper, and is smaller (which is too small imo) yet costs the same...

yeah the hard drive is larger but holy smokes I haven't even used 1/5 of my 120GB.

This wont effect the ps4 though. The ps4 still is over a year away.
