Silent 140mm fans?

Thread Starter
From the threads I've read it seems there are a lot of good choices for quiet 120mm fans (Noctua, Scythe GT), but what about 140mm? I'm interested in silent with decent airflow or quiet with a good air flow.

Bitfenix, Noctuas, or Gentle Typhoons are great.

+1 for BitFenix 140s

I'm using a few in my build and they are very quiet, while still maintaining good airflow. However, there are other very good 140s as well, Thermalright TY-141 and Phanteks 140s are very nice too.

I have 7 140mm Prolimatech Blue Vortexes in my rig and they are very quiet, they cool great as well. My 3820 idles at about 23C with three of them on my CPU cooler. I wrote a short review on them if you want to check it out, it's my only review so don't expect much.

140mm fans have so little good options compared to 120mm fans. if you are really stiff on only 140mm fans then these cougars are great http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553007

I can also recommend the TY-140/141 - pretty silent. they run from about 550rpm to 700rpm barely hearing them; they become more insistent up to about 900rpm - but it's not disturbing. higher than that, to about 1300,they are audible.

Of course, it also depends on background noise, other fans, etc and how sensitive your ears are smile.gif

I used them as cooler push/pull, and now as top exhausts. You should also take into consideration that they have 120mm mounting holes, and are 140x160mm - so they might not fit everywhere.

I use 2 Corsair 140mm Quiet Edition fans in my Corsair 800D build so i can only recommend what i have used.

Thmarlright's X-silent 140 is also good, especially if you're interseted into low RPM ranges (max 900 RPM), though it's starting voltage is highter than the TY-140. I typically run the ones on my rig at 750ish RPM.

The akasa apache/vipers are good, I have a pair of vipers. My only issue is they click/grind sort of at certain voltage ranges. I'm not sure if it's the fan or my controller, my corsair H80 fans do the same thing. I'm leaning towards the controller.

All my case fans are Noiseblockers. They're quiet and they move a lot of air. Most of the noise they do make is just air moving...hardly any humming on the 140mms, and they're practically silent when on a fan controller at around 7 volts.
