Hey all ...

After a lot of thinking and me coming into some money I finally decided to sell my 560Ti Hawk in favor of either a 7950/70 or a 670/80 ...


I know that the 670 is better performance for your money but the best 670 I can get is the MSI Power Edition and I am worried about temp problems due to the heat pipes like I am having with my 560Ti hawk ...

I know people are saying the 7950 is better than the 7970 and the 670 but once again I am having a problem choosing due to the heat pipes ....


I really hate the look of the 7970 (red kills my theme) unless I get the Vapor X and deal with the heat pipe problem and the cost ... ... I would prefer having Physx and the ability to fold ...

I could get the EVGA 680 Superclocked ref design which is cheaper than the 7970 vapor X


Looking at prices alone : 7950<670<680<7970
Looking at performance : 670<7950<680<7970 ... ... (I could be wrong with this 1)

I will be overclocking but I would prefer to run at a stock clock for a while ... and I will be gaming on a single 1080p or 1200p screen


BUT

Realistically speaking ... what are the chances of the 700 or 8000 series being released this year ?



All advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated as I am so lost as how to proceed ...

If you need the cheapest card get the 7950, and overclock it to 7970 performance.

If you have wods of cash to spend get either the 670 or 680 and also overclock for more performance.

How does the 7950 & 680 compare to the 7970 ? ... ... how much difference will that extra 1gb memory and extra 128kb bandwidth make ? ...

7950 = R4300
670 = R4600
680 = R5800
7970= R6200



Those are the prices I am looking at ... the first three are all within budget and similarly priced ... the 7970 VX is expensive to say the least ...

Well if you want the most performance maybe go with the 680, it is generally faster than the 7970 at 1920x1080. And it supports Physx, and Adaptive Vsync.

I was kinda surprised that you put the 7970 ahead of the 680 on your performance list thingy. But they're basically neck to neck performance wise. The reason to pick an Nvidia card would probably be Physx and adaptive vsync like snipekill mentioned. If you're going multiple monitor setups, the extra VRAM on the AMD card is going to help you though.

The reason I put it ahead is because the card is faster ... ... I may not see a difference at 1080p but at 1600p and above the performance gap is insane ...

It is

7950<7950 w/Boost<670<7970<680<7970 GHz Edition.

The GTX 670 is the nicest spot on those cards.
It only cost 7% than the HD7950 but will perform better especially if the 7950 use the reference cooler.
GTX 680 isn't too shabby but the 7970 is definitely overpriced.

An OCed 670 can be faster than a stock or a moderately OCed HD7970 too.

My 670 FTW use reference GTX 680 cooler and it is not loud at stock. Of course if you want to push the OC to the max the cooler is going to be loud like any reference design.
About Ocing I can't say anything because it is no guarantee, it is possible to get an awesome above average overclocker or a dud even if the both cards are the same module.
