Gtx 670 Vs hd 7970 - Page 11

Some games perform better with nvidia cards because of the driver support of nvidia. And all other games perform better based on more card specification.

Radeon HD 7970 has 384 bit memory bus and 5.5ghz memory clock, which is about 260gb/sec memory bandwidth where gtx 680 has 256 bit bus & 6ghz memory clock which is about 190gb/sec memory bandwidth.

Radeon HD 7970 has 4.31 billion 28nm transistors where Nvidia GTX 680 has 3.54 billion 28nm transistors, which is important considering the true gpu power. Which is why 7970 under %100 load drains more power.

Radeon HD 7970 is clocked at 925 mhz where GTX 680 is clocked at 1006mhz and 7970`s max clock speed is far faster than the GTX 680, in other words in 7970 OC vs GTX 680 OC 7970 is the clear winner.

Radeon refference 7970 ghz edition gets max 80C hot where GTX 680 refference gets about 82C which both are pretty much not important. (Ghz edition clock speed 1GHZ, the same as GTX 680)

GTX 680 performs about 5-6 fps better in BF3 or some other games where both cards get over 60 fps which is clearly unnecessary since your eyes won`t realize the difference over 25 fps.
Either card will make no difference in performance in any games for next 2 years unless you do 3D or 3x hi resolution monitors where GTX 680 is the clear winner in 3D and 7970 is the clear winner in 3x monitors.

I do not need either of 3D or 3x monitors. But i preferred 7970 since in the future i am pretty sure 7970 will beat gtx 680 in any case because nvidia will no longer support 6 series in driver and they will do new drivers for 7 8 9 series cards after about 3 years. Either of the cards will not perform over 60 fps, they will be around 20-30 in 2015 games where i think GTX 680 will go under 25 fps and 7970 will perform over 25 fps since it has better GPU and memory bandwidth.

I run all the games at 25 fps with a program that limits the fps. And 7970 with 25fps doesn`t drain lots of power, doesn`t get hot, doesn`t do noise, is cheaper, is not making you feel like you need to update your driver for every new game, is not making you feel like you will play BF3 forever. You can overclock it more than the gtx 680 when the day comes the card doesn`t perform over 25 fps which is surely not soon. Trust me dude, if you don`t give a damn about 3D or stuff 7970 will last at least 3-4 years and at least 1 more year over GTX 680 or 70.

I am not an AMD fanboi as this is the first amd "thing" i own in my intel cpu based computer and i don`t feel like gettin a new pc for every 2 years.
And yes i am a poor nerd earning some hunds of bucks from only website ads business. I don`t work and yep i am free. Cheers.

Don't know where you get that, but that's entirely opposite. AMD has the habit of abandoning their old customers, just check their latest never settling driver which doesn't even support video cards from last year. Nvidia's driver takes care of the video cards that was produced 5 years ago, and that's why older games runs better on Nvidia's card. Nvidia's card will become better and better, and AMD's latest card will loose complete support in the new year.

That doesn't make sense. So people who don't have a one year old or less card won't be able to update their drivers ? There's people with older AMD cards running newer drivers too. I've had both cards and never had issues with drivers on either end and as long as your game is not extremely old it shouldn't really be a main concern. New stuff comes out every couple of months anyway.

Plus if you get a factory OC version of GTX 670 like the Asus DirectCU2 you get better cooling and less noise just sayian!

For people who have the UNLIMITED Money, I think it's no problem, because he/she can Upgrade Every Generation like they want....but for people with limited budget I think those point is very Important.

I did not say amd does not abandon their old customers. But i said the card itself is better than the nvidia cards as in every specification. Both companies don`t release new drivers for old cards after a while and also game companies do games that run better in new drivers instead of just the specification. That is why Nvidia cards will run some games better because they update their driver always. I didn`t say as for the current time amd card is better in performance in every games and it will probably never be as if it goes this way. But after 3 years can you really say that nvidia will keep updating their old drivers for more performance or nvidia will just not do it so you will have to buy a new card. That is where better specified card will win instead of better driver card. Thats simple buddy. Always buy the single most powerful card you can afford. And i didn`t say a single word about those who can afford for new cards every year. Its their own money after all. Cheers.

Yeah thats how it is. After 1 and half years drivers stop increasing performance because they soon will be based for the new cards. That's why I got the card I have now.

It's called Legacy. Once hardware gets that old, its so far from spec to current hardware there is no commonality and generally this hardware has run its course development wise. Btw, the part in BOLD is a fabrication. Interestingly Cayman, AMD's last gen gpu has run it's course already. They've milked everything from the silicon that they could and now it only needs updates for newer games.
