The first few pages of this thread makes me laugh when people dig up really old benchmarks and then claim the 7 series is weak.

hi all, i just had the option to choose from:

Gigabyte GTX670 GV-N670OC-2GD at 340 Euro http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4211#sp

or

XFX 7970 at 320 Euro http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/xfx-r7970-double-dissipation-graphics-card-review/22/

I bougth the 7970.

Do you think i made the right choice? I started reading the thread but only the first 3 pages...

I have a 500W Corsair high performance PSU, do you think i can overclock without power issues ? (i have also i5 3570k and one SSD drive, no weird blue ligths or stuff like that)

cheers

the XFX HD 7970 DD cooler is not as good as the Gigabyte windforce3x cooler. you could have gone for the Gigabyte HD 7970 OC(1 Ghz) with windforce3x cooler. is it possible to change your order. if not leave it.

the HD 7970(925 Mhz) is faster than GTX 670 and on par with GTX 680(1058 Mhz). A slight overclock on the HD 7970 to 1.1 Ghz would put the HD 7970 ahead of a GTX 670 at 1.25 - 1.3 Ghz in the majority of games.

the Ghz edition windforce 3 would cost 60 euro more...and it would be quite complicated to change it (we're in italy)

for the temperature i read it's anyway better than the stock one http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/xfx-r7970-double-dissipation-graphics-card-review/19/

but the ghz edition is just a 7970 where the GPU speed is increased to 1 Ghz and ram increased too?

doesn't it make more sense to simply overclock the stock speed one?

yeah the XFX DD would be better than the stock cooler. the DD cooler should be fine upto 1.15 Ghz. You might be able to hit those clocks at stock voltage or a very slight voltage increase. good luck. thumb.gif

I have a HD2400 on my laptop which I use for different types of files, and it has 12.6. No idea what the guy who said "AMD doesn't support their older cards" is talking about. The HD2400 is like 5 years old or something, and the last update was in July. I'd call that pretty fair smile.gif Especially since there's nothing more to add to these cards.

When 7950 > 670, where do you think the 7970 is?
