I personally went with the GTX 670, because it was on sale for $360, but I think may have stayed with the 670 regardless. Overclocked it can reach 680 levels, came with Borderlands 2, and has better resell value due to their being a lot more Nvidia fan boys. Nvidia and Intel right now carry the best "name" right now to the average consumer. I had an AMD 5870 before this 670, so I really have no fanboyism to any brand. If you like playing most new games, chances are you'd see bonus performance when it comes to the Phsyx games. I haven't read too much into Nvidia surround sound, but it sounds just like eyefinity to me, so I'm not sure if AMD GPUs have any bonus advantages that are only found on their products.

Overall, I think the 670 has a lot more in its favor right now.

AFAIK these are still not up to date.

My point stands, I am taking 670 over the 7970.
Power and temperature/noise go hand in hand, since more TDP=more heat generated, so given the same cooling system used the 7970 will run hotter than the 670, the Ghz will do the same against a 680. Unless you want a multiple monitor/1440p+ set up, 670 still have a slight edge over 7970.
Using the same Twin Frozor cooler:
MSI 7970 lightning

vs MSI 670 PE

So your telling me you pick your cards based on heat? ... I Personally would want to go with the card that offers the best performance as possible while being as future proof as a GPU can be.
"Always buy the single most powerful GPU you can afford" I have heard this for a few years now and it seems to make the most sense out of anything I have ever heard about video cards!

I pick my card based on performance(and 670 isn't that much behind even in the game it does lose in 1080p), but I also appreciate low Power consumption(better PSU efficency, also PSU performance degrades overtime so having a low power card helps). Seem like you are completely oblivious to this, performance is important to me and 670 delivers where I need it to:

I pick 670 because for non-significant performance difference it consume a lot less power and runs cooler than the alternatives, the 670 SLI is close enough to the top that I don't see the need to pay the extra in $/W/C to get the top level card.

The only Future Proof feature 7970 really offers is for 1440p/1600p with the 3G ram and 384 bit Bus, however by the time IPS panel get down to 2ms and no ghosting, I will be buying Volcanic Island(9970) or Maxwell(880) to keep up anyway.

You said it! The three cards all very close in performance but one dares to offer ... 3g vram .. dum dum dummmm. So based on cards that are equal in performance why not get the card that gives you the higher bus and vram? Honestly why not? This is the question i ask myself when deciding between the 680 and 7970 and I'm sure a lot do as well. If it wasn't for that extra ram then yes i would see your point but why take less ram when you can get more? Its like going to burger king and saying i would like a number 5 with a medium soda please. Would you like the large soda with a bigger straw for no additional charge sir? Ummm yes!

Just my opinion tho of course.

Because you don't need the 3G Vram and higher bus to play 120Hz 1080p, and anything above that is 8ms IPS Ghosting hell for another 2 years. Also it is not no addtional charge: it is $10-$35/50W+/hotter/noiser given the same cooler & not as good in 3D.

I think I made some part of this point before but I will make it again:
If you are into 1440p+ Infinite ghosting then get the 7970
If you are into 3D/chaper/less power/heat/noise/3D get the 670.

If you want to be 2015 future proof, you are silly.

Some games can push the 2gb limit at 1080p i have done the research. If you are thinking of holding onto your card for a few years then you might well need that extra vram more then you think, But ignore that because that's not the point i'm making. You are buying a card that is cheaper then a 680 and preforms just as well and it comes with more vram. Needing it or not is not the point. The point is its there its free why the hell not? You are still getting the performance you just get a little extra something something and its just plan silly to ignore that imo.

Again if the 680 and 670 were 3gb same ram bus as the 7970 I would see your point. But you have to see the point i'm trying to make here? If you are already paying the money... Why Not?

I don't need that much Vram, how many times do I have to say that? I am barely hitting 1.2 G vram anyway, it is so like buying 32 G of Ram. I am buying a card that's more expansive than the 670 /more power hungry/runs noiser/hotter with the same cooler/don't offer 3D vision2/offer a bunch of stuff I won't need(3 montior and 3g vram) in at least 3 years.

So, 7970 owners... how's it feel to know you wasted $400? Eat it AMD fanbois. lachen.gif

Yawn DX9..

When people bring up power consumption, it's over.
No NV zealot cared that Fermi drew 50% power for ~10% perf increase over the 5870.
Why does power consumption matter now.

And disregard SP BF3 results, it's known that AMD performs better in MP than SP.
I'll put my $423 7970 @ 1200/1700 against any GTX670 up to 1440p res.
