HDD upgrade worth it?

Currently in my sig I have a very slow harddrive (IDE 5400rpm) from an HP rig we bought 3 years ago. I was wondering if I upgrade to a 250gb 7200rpm 16mb cache SATA HDD will it improve my performance a lot? Gaming impact? Will it be worth it?

Well, a faster hard drive wont impact your FPS at all, since the data is stored in VRAM. However, it will increase over-all system performance quite a bit. You will notice a difference in program load times.

If you download stuff a lot then it'll be worthed.

Oh man, it will be ALOT Faster, i should know. =P

but instead of getting a 250gb hd, why not get two 100gb's and raid them, then youd see a huge performance over that 5400rpm hd.. =p

Is raiding HDDs complicated? Do I have to maintain each drive seperately, and assign one of them as primary HDD?

RAID is just like having a single drive but make sure your MoBo supports RAID first.

Now, getting a 250GB HDD is great but make sure you get one of those new Seagate HDDs with Perpendicular recording. I got mine for $77 a piece with free shipping.

This is my mobo. Does it support SATA 3.0 or SATA 150 or something, I'm not too sure about this stuff. What would the best setup for me be? I do not need too much storage. So, maybe 2x120GB SATA in either Raid 1 or Raid 0 (which one is better?). Thanks

However, I would suggest getting a WD Raptor or waiting until Q1-Q2 to get a new hybrid hard drive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_Hard_Drive

Too expensive. I rather get 2 SATA 7200rpms and put them into Raid than get a Raptor that costs the same amount.
