On a crop, 28 isn't all that wide. It's a little under a 50mm (44 and change) which isn't all that wide.

28 is on the wide side of the "normal" focal lengths as categorized by retailers and some manufacturers.

if you want WIDE you are going to have to go for a wide angle zoom for crop cameras like a 10-20 or 11-16 f2.8( 11-16 i think might be the fastest aperture wide zoom for crop cameras)

once you get wider than 24mm you are not going to really see anything faster than f2.8

24 f1.4 being the fastest wide prime you can get, but 24 is not really very wide on a crop camera but it is wide enough to shoot indoors as long as you arent taking group photos of maybe like more than like maybe 3 people

Comparatively 28mm to a 50mm. It is wider.

Plus 35mm and below are considered wide angle. Well on a full frame.

They dont put lenses in categories based on their FOV on crop cameras. A "true" normal lens on the T3i would be 26mm, as that's the diagonal of the sensor -- so 28mm is actually slightly on the narrow side of normal.

depending on your budget if you want wide these are pretty much your only choices unless you get the rokinon 14mm f2.8 which is hit or miss as some may love and and some not so much. its all manual focus and manual aperture iirc on the aperture part, definitely manual focus though

this is literally i think everything you have to chose from except adapting lenses from other mounts to your camera. as you can see there are not many options for a very wide aperture faster than f2.8 wider than 24mm (which will be decent on a crop but not considerably wide)

i doubt that you are wanting extreme wide but the only wider you can get is from a fisheye which is not at all suggested for indoors or general photography. its a specialty lens

I'm thinking about spend 500USD, also from being a poor college student.
Guess I better save up for something in 10's mm.
But probably gonna buy the 28mm to play around and get better at photography.
If you really want to save on a budget and practice with large aperture, get the 50 f/1.8 (if you don't already have). It'll get you into a good bang-for-your-buck prime without breaking the bank.

I have another question.
Does crop sensor affect the minimum focus length on the length??
