Just a heads up to those interested - the Dropbox links that give examples of the problem(s) currently don't work. Apparently DB suspends public links that get too much traffic...

I'll be looking for a new place to put them shortly! Thanks for all the comments/questions/support everybody! redface.gif

Sounds like you're just one of those persons that gets unlucky, because ASUS has been good to me for 10+ years... My last computer had an ASUS Motherboard in it, and never had any issues with it, the computer lasted for 8 years, and it can still probably chug along, I only updated to play the latest and greatest games. I had so much faith in their product I even bought an open box ASUS motherboard, which has been going for almost 3 years now without an issue. It didn't come with an I/O shield so I figured I would call ASUS to see how much it would be to buy one, I told them my situation, and they shipped it out to me for free. Sorry that you had troubles with them, but they definitely don't deserve this.

Well, maybe I am just an unlucky one. I'm happy for you that you've had a good experience with them. I've bought ASUS components in the past (never pre-built systems) and have not had any problems. But it seems to me like there is an uncomfortably large number of people that have had similar poor experiences, or have at least heard of ASUS RMA horrors from friends and other internet posts...

Newegg did a similar thing to me with defective video cards. They sent me three dead video cards in a row until I finally gave up and said just refund me my money....and they REFUSED to refund me my money...they said some bull crap like the GPU serial number did not match the box serial number....they admitted that the gpu number does MATCH the gpu number of the card they sold me but they would not honor the return because the box did not match which does not make any sense, so now I am stuck with a dead video card that I need to RMA and then sell for a loss.

I have been a Newegg customer for over 10 years and will never buy from them again and I will TELL EVERYONE never to buy from Newegg again.

Its not him that is unlucky it is you who is lucky. He is not the only one there is a ton of people on OCN alone posting tons of stories about the RMA being horrible. Everyone agrees their products are top notch but, when one does fail the warranty that came with the product is almost useless and takes alot of time and frustration just to get a working part. My opinion is if you are gonna let your RMA department treat people like that then I will just avoid your products all together. If you doubt how bad it is just ask OCN's former moderator Grunion. He is constantly helping people with RMA's cause their own department wont.

EDIT: just for the info here is an example of a good RMA department from another company. I bought a fractal case that had a broke front panel. I called on without even asking for proof they are shipping me a brand new front panel within a week. Told me to just keep the old one for parts. No headaches no hassle just got the job done.

I've had similar experiences with NZXT and EVGA. They really wanted to help me out and make sure I was satisfied with my service. And that was on the first phone call. Heck, NZXT even wrote a personal follow-up email about a week later just to make sure everything was still okay. Some companies really know how to handle their customers. Be assured that I'd not think twice about buying from them again smile.gif

Ya that's funny the guy at fractal handling my RMA said he had a similar experience with ASUS no joke. lol He told me that EVGA has a really good department and he recommended I roll with them. I told him I will probably sell my 7870 when it gets back and pick up a EVGA 660ti or 670. Its a shame cause I love ROG stuff but not worth the risk of dealing with RMA again.

My dad bought a laptop from them. After a few months of use the laptop would start to shutdown randomly. After getting it back from repairs the laptops speakers were dead on arrival.

I have had excellent experiences with ASUS products; two motherboards, a monitor and some sound cards but I've never had to do an RMA or call their customer service. Unrelated to ASUS but this one D-Link Router I've had for close to two years apparently only lasted 6 months according to newegg reviews but it's still working fine these days. Everything reacts differently to other environments I guess; I had some issue with my PC as well where the fridge was connected to this power line and it was drawing so much power that my PC's DVD drive wouldn't open up and music playback in general skipped (on the PC on my sig); moving the fridge to a new line solved the problem.

Ah.......an ASUS laptop...

There is your issue. Everything else ASUS is good, but I would not touch their laptops with a barge pole.
