I would go with what you just posted, that way when you realize that you need 2 gigs (it makes video/audio editing go alot smoother, personal experience). You can just buy another stick like that.

It's cheaper in the long run to buy it now then later ($230 vs $250+) plus the Crucial carry D9GMH chips, so they OC pretty high (900mhz+)

You can get cheaper sticks but they won't OC as good as the Crucial

If you're sure you don't need 2gb then go with the OCZ S.O.E

one question on the motherboard, i can't seem to find if it has firewire, i need that because i connect my video camera up by firewire, i don't really want to get an aftermarket card but if you guys say this is the best motherboard than i guess i'll go with it.

i also read in a review for the motherboard(on newegg) that it needs a 1.8V ram for it to start but the crucial is 2.2V. whats up with that?

It will boot okay, plenty of people use RAM rated at 2v+ on the S3/DS3

Well either way you can supply that voltage. I'm going to tell you this just for experience because apparently this board isn't for you:

The memory boots @ 1.8v but to run properly at the specified speeds you need 2.1v, but 900MHz @ 5-5-5-12 is very good. (talking about the S.O.E. memory). And when they have a voltage like 2.2v that means it needs that much voltage to run @ the given specifications of the memory. Not necessarily what you NEED to run at.

Now as for your motherboard, you can't use the S3 because it doesn't have Firewire. I have a better board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131070

It's more than the S3 but it's better than the S3, it's got an ICH8R chip rather than the ICH8 chip on the S3 which will enable you for better RAID support if you are so inclined to go raid which would be a good idea in your situation.

But it also has onboard Firewire which you should accommodate your case to so you can have front bay firwire. Or you can just use the back, but basically you've got two choices for where you want firewire... Front and Back. And if you want front you have to make sure your case supports it.

i was actually looking at the board before, how does it do on overclocking. i mean i found a pci firewire board that would do just fine, if you think the s3 board is better. i don't know a lot about memory timing and all that, still learning. also how about this for memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231088
