[Build Log] 660 SLI 3570K gaming/web design PC

Thread Starter
I am upgrading from a Core 2 Duo/DDR2/GTS 250 PC I built back in 2009. It runs dual monitors with Photoshop, Microsoft Office, TF2 and anything up to GTA IV and the like, but it just feels sluggish and outdated. So, since IBs have gotten a lot cheaper as well as DDR3, SSDs and Nvidia cards (I know ATI/AMD cards are cheaper still but I prefer Nvidia), I decided to build a new one. I wanted it to be as future-proof as possible and last at least 3/4 years, preferably 5. I intended to get the GTX 560 Ti in SLI but the MSI 660 was only £20 more and was pre-overclocked meaning it's better than other 660s and the warranty covers the overclock, which is better than me overclocking a standard 660 and not having it covered by warranty. I'm thinking I will overclock the CPU to around 4/4.2GHz because it's easy, but probably not much more than that because this chip apparently has overheating issues

So here's what I have:
  • Fractal Design Define R4 - £90
  • Asus P8Z77-V - £125
  • i5 3570K - £180
  • 2x4GB Crucial Ballistix 1600MHz DDR3 - £25
  • 240GB SanDisk Extreme SSD - £125
  • 2xMSI Twin Frozr III OC GTX 660 in SLI - £360
  • Freezer 13 Pro - £25
  • Antec EarthWatts 650W from my old PC - £0 [£70 to buy]
  • LG DVD-RW from my old PC - £0 [£15 to buy]

Total spent: £930
[Total including new PSU & OD: £1015]

I work as a software/web developer so need my PC to comfortably handle dual monitors with a number of programs (Photoshop, Outlook, Word, Excel, a couple IDEs, a few dozen Chrome tabs, etc...) running all at the same time as well as run somewhat-demanding games well, without me needing to upgrade any time soon. I know some of you will say I should have gotten an i7, or I should have gotten a 670 then SLI'd in the future, but this works for me so whatever smile.gif

I will be posting pictures soon when the components are delivered and will benchmark the rig once it's built for others to compare. I'm happy to share my thoughts and answer questions on any of the components if you'd like
