lapping a heatsing (and failing)

i tried lapping a heatsink with a drill press and wire brush but now it looks like a cobble stone road. i replaced it but lapping is something i would like to do to it. it was aluminium so maybe thats the prob

You lap with 650 and progressively higher sandpaper. All the way up to at least 1500 grit, not a drill press and wire brush, I am sure that just made it worse, alot worse.

hey, if you don't try, how do ya really know. Nice try, ... now you know. I would suggest a mirror as a base to put progressive grits of wet/dry sandpaper on . Tape it to the mirror and move the HSF in a slow figure 8 motion.

I did a "back and forth" motion, "side to side" motion and a circular motion and it turned out great.

tried the old sandpaper system on one then used a set of these"not that exact set mine was made by winchester" the second time on another cpu...much faster with same results...finished off with the 1500 paper
