[Wired] Custom Chips From Intel and AMD - Page 5

i'd be down for an OCN chip (it would be cool if we got the OCN flame on the IHS too) I can't help but think the cost of entry would be in the $2000+ range tho

give me a couple of years to raise the money to be able to buy in too tongue.gif

(it's actually quite sad that with their current model, intel never sells chips that have all the features available. If you have dual QPI links you have no unlocked multi, etc. Maybe this is why, those chips are 'custom' and are going to big customers)

Forget the Xeon!

Psssh!!

Let's get in touch with Intel and see if we can get some "OCN Edition Core i3 3220K", maybe they will be nice enough to produce a couple for us! biggrin.gif

Just need to have them create a series of unlocked 2011 xeons, for SR-X users, could prolly even go in with Asus or EVGA to get it setup.

EVGA and Asus don't buy CPUs from Intel.

Again, this is for direct customers and all of these are high-volume already (1000s+). To get something custom, it would have to be a very high-volume customer willing to purchase thousands of chips to make it worth their time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Google has unlocked SB Xeons since they have a fault-tolerance architecture and build their own custom hardware/firmware/software.
Once again...

I am feeling SLIGHTLY nostalgistic, but want to remain somewhat modern. So here is my compromise.

I want Intel to build me an old school CPU based off the 4.77MHz 8088 chip ... but since this is the year 2012, I think it should be multi-core ... So about 256 of those on a chip should do it. thumb.gif
