Logitech G700 gradually dying...

Thread Starter
I got the G700 less than a year now (Oct 2011) and I have to admit that I was extremely happy with it, using it daily some 10-12 hours (or more), mainly for productivity tasks (modeling / photo-editing) and ofc casual gaming.

The last month, the mouse has started becoming very picky on surfaces...it will track fine for a session on my dark black desktop, then all of a sudden it will stop. It will work seamlessly switching from wireless to wired mode, but it appears to be "more picky" when wired.
Battery has been replaced already with a new eneloop AA - with other brands tested aswell - and it does the same.

Being frustrated, I bough a steel 4HD mousepad, to check for consistency and whatnot on a surface that supposingly works great with laser sensors...unfortunately the mouse/cursor won't even move a pixel on it. NOTHING. Put a magazine under it, and it works great...

Ofc it wasn't like that when I bought it, and it would track insanely consistently on almost all surfaces - cloth mousepads, light color wooden desk, dark color desk, sheets of paper, sheets of cardboard etc...now its extremly random...Needless to mention that the mouse has virtually no physical wear - if it wasn't for the little scuffs on the teflon feet, you could say it looks brand new, and the sensor slot is spotless - no grind or dust.

Guess the mouse should be heading for replacement weeks now, but I thought I was doing something wrong...mad.gif

Shoot an email to logitech. A new mouse will be shipped to you within 2-3 weeks.

On the old mouse - use something to clean lens, like a qtip.

These mice carry a 3-year warranty, and I've heard it's pretty good (for Logitech peripherals, anyway). I agree that you should contact Logitech and see if you can get a replacement.

Yeah definitely shoot Logitech an email and see if you can get it replaced. Every time I've needed to contact them about anything I've gotten a replacement quickly. They have some of the best CS in my opinion and its worth a shot.

Same thing happend to me a M705. I've owned mostly Logitech mices over the years and this one was the only one that ever had a problem. Ended up replacing it since i couldnt find any fix to it.

Thanks for your replies.
I did use qtips / canned air / giottos rocket blower etc...I clean my mouse routinely, just like I do my photo gear - as I've said above, the mouse's sensor bay is pristine clean.

The mouse persists on its weird behavior: on illustrated paper / magazine works fine. On matte surfaces is either hit and miss, or miss - but miss 100%. It won't work at all on a matte grey chipboard that was my carry-on mouspad for architecture school (used it for hours and hours on it with no glitch in the past).
On my IKEA desk where i wasn't using a mouse pad - ever - its a hit and miss...
On the brand new Steelseries 4HD that was supposed to be a good choice for laser mice, used by Logitech during the sensor's validation etc etc it won't even bulge a pixel.

Try disabling the Windows default driver. That interferes with Logitech's Set Point drivers. It always has in my experience.

i guess you dont have a powermeter at hand to check if the vcsel is going eos on you.

is it working better on white paper?

This sounds as if vcsel is going eos. very strange, as it should not have been that stressed due to all the power saving etc.

After contacting Logitech, it did not take long for them to promise me a replacement.
They claimed lack of stock though, so I had to wait a bit longer, receiving my new G700 (in fully sealed, retail packaging - appears to be brand new) just today...

Boy, what a difference...just as I've remembered it...it tracks consistently everywhere:
bare desk, worn working surfaces, black foamcore sheet, cardboard, brushed aluminum, the steel 4HD mousepad, the latter inside its blister packaging...it just works...thumb.gif

Hope it lasts longer this time tongue.gif
