Considering that a 2.66GHz E6700 beats a 2.8GHz FX-62 very decisively, and if program is very well optimized for quad core, Kentsfield will deliver almost double the performance of a dual core Conroe. That being said, simple logic states that four K8 processors will perform slower than four Core 2 processors. There is also the fact that the memory is divided up into 2 separate banks with 4x4, while this wont affect multitasking much, it will prove to be a bottleneck in heavily multithreaded applictations.
There is also the fact that Kentsfield will have a TDP of 120W, while each 4x4 processor will have a TDP of 125W, for a total of 250W - which will put out around the same amount of heat as Crossfire X1900's. So you can see that Kentsfield is the more economical...and more environmentally friendly option.
