Well, it's reasonable based on what we know now. It takes 2 chips so you have to have 2 cooling solutions, 1 on each. Consider the cooling solution to be those Big Typhoon, there'll be hardly any space left for other stuff.

Considering that a 2.66GHz E6700 beats a 2.8GHz FX-62 very decisively, and if program is very well optimized for quad core, Kentsfield will deliver almost double the performance of a dual core Conroe. That being said, simple logic states that four K8 processors will perform slower than four Core 2 processors. There is also the fact that the memory is divided up into 2 separate banks with 4x4, while this wont affect multitasking much, it will prove to be a bottleneck in heavily multithreaded applictations.

There is also the fact that Kentsfield will have a TDP of 120W, while each 4x4 processor will have a TDP of 125W, for a total of 250W - which will put out around the same amount of heat as Crossfire X1900's. So you can see that Kentsfield is the more economical...and more environmentally friendly option.

Your forgetting that on Socket F Opteron's, IBM was saying there was up to a 30% improvement in performance per watt.

That pertains to 4x4.

Ohh... take that, you goat! Nothing personal; just having some fun!

Pertaining to my fanboy status, I am rooting for AMD. /Forward March

I think its funny that people are comparing AM2 to kentsfield and stating that the kent is better in a thread that is about 4x4 which isnt even out yet.

So say whatever you want, because only when someone can actually benchmark a 4x4 system can you compare them.

Can somebody say fanboy?

I think some of us are just eager to speculate. I know Im being harsh on AMD's offering, but I really do think they are going down the wrong road with this. Its like back when Intel was charging $1000 for a 3.73GHz P4 Extreme Edition, that was easily beaten by a $1000 FX-57 or an FX-55, which could be had for around $850. Not to mention the 3.8GHz P4 570 and 670 were faster as well and could be had for less.
