F@H and a GTX 580, It's Getting Hot In Here...

Thread Starter
I am currently running my EVGA GTX 580 3072MB for the Home Team (OCN) and it is pulling 31k+ PPD.

Problem is, the Fan is at 100% to keep it at 77-80C, any lower on the fan and she goes over 85C frown.gif

My CPU is a nice 45C At Full F@H Load. lol

So how do i fix the HEAT issue? It sounds like a Jet Engine and IDK if the fan can take it for long.

Thanks. smile.gif

What are your ambient temps like? F@H is known to bring out the maximum temps of your hardware. 77-80 Celsius doesn't seem very bad, although having to keep the fan at 100% is kind of odd. thinking.gif
How long have you had the card? And when was the last time you took it out and cleaned it out with some compressed air?

When I fold on my 580, which I dunno how you get 31k+ PPD...but mine is like 25kppd but at slight overclock 810Mhz 1.050v I top out with IHS removed and lapped 620, 40C, 920Mhz @ 1.1V is 46-48C depending on ambient. I feel going over 50C on my 580 with direct die antec cooling is bad...lol

I have to keep my VRM's cool, that's my major issue. I no longer ever have to worry about core temp. VRM's get pretty hot. PCB plate will be in the 50C range and top of the PCB by the VRM's can get upto 70C which who knows how hot the reference 580's VRM's actually are... I've bios modded my card to get all the way upto 1.22V Vcore and so far I've tested 1.175v and that still won't get much past 52C, I don't fold on 1.175v though, too much power draw...

The radiator for my 580 really can pour out the heat from that 580 though... It's nice having really efficient cooling on it! Makes for a nice silent, worry free gaming all the time. Definitely best cooling option for any graphics card out there. Cheap too! I got my 620 for like $50 total...can't beat WC for that price.

The mod! I love saying that in a wrestler voice lol. I used to creep in that thread a lot, and it's awesome stuff they've done in there. Seems to be a good performing cheap solution. I just think most people are kind of hesitant to tear into their cards like that. Me personally, if I wasn't into custom water cooling I might give it a try. But I think for most it's kind of scary.

Ambient is like 20C

Yes 100% Fan keeps it under 80C, if i go down to 90% she hits 85C+

Just got it last week, BRAND NEW. Might need New TIM? lol

Will keeping the Fan at 100% for F@H burn out the Motor faster? (Modded the Fan from 85% MAX to 100% MAX) I don't mind the Noise, just don't want my fan giving out while i am asleep, hate to wake up to the Fire Department LOL biggrin.gif

Shoot me about $50 for it and a Guide JUST for my EVGA GTX 580 and i might try it. smile.gif

Also, the reason i am getting 31k+ PPD is cuz my card runs at: 950/1900/2100 @ 1.163V She is Stable, just completed 2 WU's biggrin.gif
