I hear Crossfire users suffer the most and that single AMD gpu's are fine. Can you confirm that?

Where in the world are you getting this? Any increase at this point is purely speculative. The change in ROPs by itself will be huge, so it's way too early to talk about performance numbers. I do look forward to this coming crazy season as the GPU nears release.

The 20% comes form higher clocks and more SPs, not a new architecture.

Should apply directly to anything thats SP limited, including Folding and BOINC.

20% improvement in compute; other apps are likely to see more of an improvement.

I suspect very few games are compute or shader limited on a 7970, and games that are fill rate limited could be 30-50% faster.

The nvidia fanboys will come out in numbers to talk smack, then the AMD fanboys will talk counter smack, it will be crazy season for sure. Can't wait rolleyes.gif

The compute improvement is not speculative (the slide says 1.2x computer performance).

When you add ~15% more shaders and bump clock speeds modestly, it's easy to see where the performance will go.

Of course, compute performance does not directly translate into game performance.

I can confirm that HD 6850s in crossfire never had a single issue ever besides low vram in bf3. Every driver update since January 2011 worked without a hitch. I've built and used a lot of rigs with both Nvidia and AMD, I never run into problems with drivers. I really do think a lot of it is over emphasized and/or user error.

That "slide" (which was confirmed to be fake) is from March, if I remember correctly. It's obviously irrelevant now, given that we already know what the next generation code names are.

Your card isn't going to get any slower with the release of these.

6970 never had an issue with drivers... 6850 x 2 never had an issue with drivers.

I think it is too Because when I had 6850s crossfired (in my old rig) I never had any issue with the drivers. It never crashed. The only problem that ever came up was that the drivers on skyrim weren't written to support crossfire so it would only use one GPU and they fixed that within 3 days of it being released.

I can tell you this much. I only had one companies drivers ever brick a card and that was an nvidia driver release that caused me to have to buy a new graphics card. I like Nvidia. IF I see a good nvidia in the next gen or 2 I might go with them. It really just depends. AS a multi monitor user I really need the extra memory bandwidth.
