You *do* need cards from the same series for Crossfire!

The following combinations will work, afaik

- X1950 Crossfire Edition with X1900 or X1950 series card, excluding the X1950PRO
- Two X1950PRO cards (no Crossfire edition needed)
- X1900 Crossfire Edition with X1900 series card (possibly also with an X1950 series card, but I am not sure)
- X1800 Crossfire Edition with X1800 series card
- Two X1600 series cards
- Two X1300 series cards
- X8xx Crossfire Edition with X8xx series card.

You can mix brands... and you can hook up an X1600XT with an X1600PRO.

Wiht SLI, you can mix brands also.
