Probably a bit of poor design there as well. Crouch-jumping as a mechanic is pretty redundant, just an extra keystroke for "jump marginally higher", might as well make that the normal jump height and leave crouching for... crouching.
But that's the whole point of beta testing anyway, you figure out what parts of the game aren't as intuitive and give hints/help (or even rework the mechanics) so that players don't get stuck. Even if most players don't need a hint, what's an acceptable portion of your player base that hates your game because they couldn't finish it?
