Almost 6 month now, what do I need to do? WC.

Thread Starter
Been almost 6 months since I first installed my loop. Now I just got my Cougar fan yesterday and wanted to install it, but it will require me to take out the Rad out, since I'm going to do that, I want to drain out the water and fill it up with a new one. But I forgot to install a drain port, so I'm kind of confuse on how to drain it properly, without disassembling everything.

Also, I want to order a drain port, what do I need?

Thanks!

I don't know how your loop is set up..a picture would be easier.. but I used to have a swiftech reservoir mounted in the case, and when I wanted to drain it, i would unmount the reservoir (with the hoses still attached), and pour it out in to a washbin (a little plastic water bin).. then once that was empty, i disconnected the power supply and everything from the motherboard/gpu, and using the 24pin main connector.. get a paperclip, (UNPLUG THE POWER SUPPLY FIRST), stick one end of the paperclip in to the green wire slot on the connector, and the other end in to any black wire slot.. then just plug the PSU back in and you can turn the PSU on and off using the switch on the back of it, this lets you turn the pump on without turning the computer on, and you can push some of the water out.. (i don't recommend doing this for long bursts because you can burn the pump out)..

Okay, now here's where my method gets questionable... once the outlet tube from the pump to the first component is clear, i disconnect the tube from the pump, then just blow in to it and manually push the water out like that.. sure the water tastes bad, but it that gets about 90% of the water out..the rest is sitting inside the CPU and GPU blocks and some in the radiator.. but it works

edit: now I have a reservoir top for my pump, so when i want to drain this, i do the same thing, but pick the whole pump and reservoir up and dump it out..but then it's the same method.

Pick the lowest connection of the loop, open it, drain it.

Well, an easy way to go (but ppl will go nuts on me for saying this) is to do the following.

First: Open your reservoir filling port. (that shouldn't cause water to come out, but you need to open it first to let out all the pressure in your loop) VERY IMPORTANT!

Next: unscrew a fitting that you can place a container underneath safely.
So just look for a spot in your computer where you can put a bucket or something to hold the water.
Carefully unscrew it and let water flow into the container (your bucket)
Then you can take the tubing you just unscrewed, out it in your mouth and blow all the water out.

I know this isn't the best way to go but it is a possibility.
I had been doing to for months tongue.gif
But then I got a drain port which is just easier.

If you really want all the water out of your loop then you're looking at disconnecting every part and draining them and let them dry for a few days.
