Is ultra a good brand? - Page 4

Ive used a couple "high end" Ultra PSU, the 800w and 500w modulars, and they seemed pretty solid. I wouldnt opt for them anymore, unless its a budget build, but they aren't BAD bad... in my opinion

the pc power & cooling and capstone are similarly rated on the 12v rail

the capstone also has a higher efficiency rating

either way you'll be fine

I decided on the 450w modular capstone. It should have no trouble with the i3+460+a few hard drives, right?

I ended up buying this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256065&Tpk=st50f-p

It's nice and small, has great stats, and the fan matches the gigabyte motherboard. smile.gif Fully modular is nice, too.

For what its worth, my last two psu have been ultra. My fist was a 500w modular one back in 2005, and I used it all the way up till I bought my ultra x3 1000w. That was at least 2008, maybe '07. I've used this psu in all my builds up to and including this current build.

It's just now showing its age with the power not delivering at its best anymore. with 5 years of hard usage, its to be expected, though. Best psu I ever personally used, and I've recommend ultra to quite a few people for their builds. They haven't come back to me with psu problems ever.

To be fair though, I'm about 5 years back for my quality approval. Can't speak to how the company acts today. My ultra x3 is a beast though.
