GIGABYTE GTX680 Super Overclock software voltage hack

Thread Starter
FROM OVERCLOCK TO "SUPER OVERCLOCK" - GIGABYTE GTX 680 SOC

I was extremely disappointed by the name of this card, and what I achieved from factory. Ok - I got the fastest clocked card in the world, but I wanted to clock it more my self! The MSI Lightning thread here, gave most of the receipt so its just to follow what I have done. I use the default bios, default nvidia drivers, no hardmods or anything. The GTX 680 SOC are ready to do this from factory.

Card: GV-N680SO-2GD
Cooling: GIGABYTE WINDFORCE 5X thermal design
GPU: Cherry-picked for full-throttle performance tuning

Default values @ 1.175v
Base clock: 1,137 MHz
Boost clock: 1,202 MHz

Stable overclock std. bios (I got 1280Mhz here)
GPU voltage: 1.175v
GPU powertarget: 130%

Xtreme bios (I got 1328Mhz here)
GPU voltage: 1.215v <--- thats not Super Overclock voltage!!!
GPU powertarget: 500%

Xtreme bios + Extreme voltage (I got 1555Mhz here)
GPU voltage: 1.48v <--- thats Super Overclock!!! and it might take even more
GPU powertarget: 500%

For extreme voltage, I use a generic EK VGA block, and I put my computer outside, where the temperature in this period of time is close to the freezing point.

Before you start - remove all Gigabyte overclocking software like OC Guru etc. It spoils everything. Uninstall it, afterwards, use my guide.

So this is how its done. I do what all MSI Lightning users do, with some exceptions because the Gigabyte cards isnt recognised by MSI AB. I guess the guide can be used for Asus 6XX TOP users, and other brands using the CHIL 8318 Voltage regulator too.

DANGER DANGER DANGER

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

DONT RETURN TRASHED CARD TO GIGABYTE FOR WARRANTY

Guide

0) Click the Extreme bios "on" - a button at the PCB. .
1) Download MSI Afterburner 2.2.4 (I havent tried older/later versions)
2) Download Artmoney Special Edition 7.39.3
3) Download Artmoney MSI AB hack file
4) Install MSI AB and Artmoney
5) Edit MSI AB Profile and insert CHIL information
Red information can be found in MSI AB just by clicking Systeminformation

6) Save the file
7) Start MSI AB
8) Let it reboot computer
9) Start up MSI AB (slider can now give +100mV, which will be added to the 1.21v = 1.31v already provided by bios)
10) Double click on MSI AB hack file and choose continue so it open Artmoney with it
11) Click the "Force" button at vGPU in the left (red 1)

12) Put in a value in the vGPU fiels (value are added to 1.21v) so "100" gives you 1.31v, "200" give 1.41v and further on etc. (red 2)
13) Keep artmoney running and switch back to the MSI AB window
14) Put all overclock settings, EXCEPT voltage. DONT TOUCH VOLTAGE IN MSI AB, the voltage is adjusted in Artmoney.

Just clock everything up and leave voltage untouched, and it will be set by the value put in Artmoney.

15) Click apply.
16) Start some graphics that will make the card boost and notice the voltage change.
17) Open MSI AB settings to show voltage on graph, and save it.
18) Detach graph window

19) Open benchmark application like 3dmark11 and see that voltage goes up while loading it.

20) Your card is now in great danger - and ready to bench.

In the furure, just use the Artmoney hackfile and MSI AB to adjust voltage and frequency.

*** If your applications are complaining about permissions etc., be sure to run everything as administrator. If not administrator, I am pretty sure the memory editor (artmoney) is unable to set the value.

I think a warning should be given about the use of Artmoney if you are a gamer and how running Artmoney while gaming can get you VAC/PB banned.

This software voltage hack is only useful to those who are only interested in overclocking and benchmarks etc, or those who do not care about a VAC/PB ban if caught running Artmoney.

+1 guide
Don't worry about that, ammonition and stuff is server-side related. Not on your regular computer.
hacking a game with these kinds of programs really won't work and are blocked, you won't get banned for running programs like art while you are in a game session.

Gaming and overclocking shouldn't be any problem. And idd, this is only for hardcore benchmarkers not for regular non-experienced overclocking people.

If MSI refuses to send the Extreme edition of afterburner for no good reason, like don't know anything about the software, than the only way left is hacking the software, and at your own risk. Fry your card, buy a new one.

Nice Guide! thumb.gif

If you want to try the afterburner 2.3.0 try hexaddress 0044C208.
I think it works too

For all Gigabyte GTX680 SOC owners. EK now made a fullcover block for it. You can get it in their webshop and read about it here: http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/ekwb_shows_new_geforce_gtx_680_water_block.html
