[solved] just bought a gtx 690 from newegg ... cheaper elsewhere today! ideas??!

hello, everyone. i've just recently been reading this forum for build ideas, as it's been a while since i last built my own computer (~ 2004 ... been mac/console guy recently ... sorry). it's been a great resource. so thank you.

but now i have a dilemna. as i said, i am building a new rig. i just bought an evga gtx 690 from newegg for $999 and haven't even opened it yet. i'm mean i just got it yesterday evening. today i wake up and ncix is selling it for $837!!!!!! that's a huge difference!

so, i'm wondering what i can do, if anything. on paper newegg has a pretty firm no refund policy for video cards. still, i've read some remote forum posts about successful video card returns at newegg. but they're a couple years old.

i do have a little feather in my cap in that the box was beaten up in shipping. i immediately complained to newegg via email and they asked to see pictures, which i submitted. not only was the outside shipping box in the general condition of the one tom hanks delivered at the end of "castaway," but the actual 690 box was dented in the corner and the shrinkwrap was opened a little. but, since it's the weekend i don't anticipate hearing anything more to resolve this matter until monday since newegg cs takes weekends off. maybe given this extenuating circumstance they will acquiesce to a refund request???

so, does anyone have any thoughts about what i can do (besides suck it up)? i'm pretty close to ordering the card from ncix and doing my best to get a return from newegg next week, but that's a pretty big gamble. if you guys have any experience with the newegg cs/refund process i'd love to hear it.

any thoughts or input greatly appreciated.

thanks again...

I would return it due to the shipping damage either way. Thats a lot of money to spend on a top tier gfx card only to have it kicked around by FedEx

totally agree, lucky. that's basically what i said in my last email to them that included pictures. can't be paying those kind of premiums and be expected to accept anything less than perfect quality, even if it is only cosmetic box issues. who knows what they damage did to the card itself. probably nothing. but i don't want to go through the build only to find i have a doa $1,000 gpu that i now have to rma!

I would not do anything until you here back from newegg. You might get stuck with 2 690's... From my experience newegg has been very fair to me. Was it on ncix for 837$ yesterday or did they just put it on sale? if it was on there a couple of days ago. Kinda your fault for not looking at all of your options.

At any given rate if the card was not damaged in any way but they box was a little beat up then i dont think that you have a case with newegg. Rather with fed-ex.

Good luck with all of it anyways man. I always hate to see 1000$ worth of equipment treated like a soccer ball.

At that point newegg would send you out a brand new one. You would not want to RMA it to evga. smile.gif

I've had that happen before with Newegg. I contacted them and after talking to them they credited the difference back to me. Happened maybe 3 times. They always say that it isn't their policy to do so but since I've been a long time customer blah blah blah.

thanks. i'd love to try this, evil, but i doubt this deal will be around long. i wonder how they'll handle it if it's no longer available when they return from the weekend?

Thanks for the input.

I decided to call just to give it a shot. Despite the posted hours of operation on their website being m-f, I was able to get someone in customer service. He told me that the rma staff is out on weekends. After a brief discussion he spoke with his manager and they decided to issue me an rma for a full refund. He even waived the restocking fee without me asking.

So, once I got the rma email I just purchased the card from ncix and came out $163 ahead. While you can't really say that paying $837 for a gfx card is winning, I definitely feel like I'm not losing as bad. thumb.gif
