i raised my Bus Speed to 250!!

it was at 200 stock on my DFI lanparty and 2 gigs of g skill hz.. i just finished reading some of the overclocking guide found here and upped it to 250.. if i learned correctly i bumped my sandy 3700 from 2200 mhz to 2700 mhz right? i checked cpu-z and thats what i see! and my HTT total thingy is 2000 right? (250x2= 500 ddr x 4x HTT = 2000) so that means i shouldnt have any problems right? first time OC'ing!!

That all sounds spot on mate! Well done, you will be able to see one hell of a difference. Just make sure you are watching those temps seeing as you are on stock cooling. Well done, alot better then my first oc which was a 4000+, could only oc it 300 mhz. =(

Your well on your way man! Welcome to the grind!
And enjoy your addiction, so far your OC is going very smoothly, those 3700's are great OC'ers!

hey but just to make sure, whats my default stock LDT multiplier thingy.. its 4 right? cuz if its 5 that would make my HDT total thingy way more than 2000 and thats not good right? what would happen if i went past 2000 HTT total thingy? is that a just an average reference rating of stability?

You said it well, the reference HTT multiplier is 5 on 939 boards, however, it might be on auto and put it down to 4 for you. You can raise your HTT higher then 1000, but you will usually start to see instability. Best to keep it at 1000 or under for HTT.

i believe the overclocking guide ssaid 2000 is ideal for the 939 chips

Yes, the default on a 939 board is 5. About the crashing, dont freak out, its just an unstable overclock. It happens to all of us. First, make sure your temps are within tolerances, you can use a program such as speedfan (google it). This will rule out overheating, which is really the only thing that can harm your proc when it comes to overclocking. Once overheating has been ruled out its time to tweak your settings, such as memory timings, and voltage options. Also, make sure your HTT multiplier is 4, not 5.

EDIT: You can also monitor your temp through the BIOS, just remember, the CPU load at bios is around 80%, so expect it to be higher at full load.

ok checked temps with speedfan (i alrady have it.. along with cpu-z!) and they are ok.. set the htt multiplier from auto to 4x.. and i lowered bus speed to 240 in case? (not sure if this last part was necessary)

ps - when i check cpu-z i see that under the bus speed reading i see HT Link and it says 961.1 mhz .. is this the number youre talking about keeping around 1000?

pss - i am now seeing that in speedfan, TEMP3 and CORE will turn to RED 'up arrow' every once in a while but then go back to being a GREEN 'down arrow' .. should i start freaking out yet?

Yes, keep that under 1000. Lowering the FSB was probably not necessary however. But its really hard for me to say, as every chip is different there is no way I can tell you what settings to use to achieve stability, its very much trial and error.
