Having just had my 8 month old PC on 15 minutes ago, I just went to turn it on. Power LED flashed then nothing.

I took everything out the case and tried the bare minimum but with no luck. I just tried the PSU paper clip test and my PSU fan spins for 0.5-2 seconds and stops until I remove the paper clip and reinsert it. Same thing.

Confirmation of dead PSU?

Can you fill in your sig rig info so others can see what system you are talking about.

It can be a dead PSU, are you able to get another PSU to run instead of the current one you have and see if your system runs again?

So it was on, then off for 15 minutes, then you went to turn it on again and it didn't work?

Easiest way to confirm it would be to hook up another PSU, but it sounds like it may be dead if it's failing the paper clip test.

Anything weird happen when you shut it down 15 minutes prior to it "failing", or in the 15 minutes for that matter?

Thanks for the replies. I shut it down, did a bit of cleaning in the room and then attempted to turn it back on. The power LED just flashed and nothing. Shut down was the usual.

I've tried just CPU, Mobo, GPU, RAM and PSU out the case but nothing.

You did the paper clip test and it shut down nearly immediately, then refused to power on after that.

I have repeated the test 5 or 6 times with the same result. This is what happens if it's hooked up to the motherboard too. On for a second, power light flashes then won't power on at all unless I reseat the ATX power connector.

Max time the fan has continued to spin is 2 seconds. What the flipp could of caused this?

I've now ordered a (different) 450W PSU for delivery tomorrow and I'll RMA this one. I just hope it's just the PSU. Can't see it being anything else as during a paperclip test the PSU will not remain on with or without some load.

Antec VP450P from eBuyer.com. It's the P model so is 80 Plus certified and has PFC.

The non-P version has glowing reviews for stability so figured the P would be even better. It even actually has 2 12v rails.

Hope I've made a good choice, it's not on your list.
