New PMP-500 pump from Koolance - Page 3

I got a tip after my first look into this that this is a custom design Koolance requested of Delphi (Laing's OEM). Whether or not it's based on the D5 is unknown, it could just as easily be an entirely new design, but it's as likely it's based on the D5 in some ways. So it seems for once we're in uncharted territory, anyone that picks this thing up should report back with how it does.

Looks like they've put a mobo fan header on a 38w pump. Seems like asking for trouble to me, there's only a couple of fan controllers that will run it.

I noticed that as well, and it's not good.

Connectors with a single point of contact don't do well at higher current loads.

On the bright side, maybe it's just preliminary photos and the shipping version will have a molex or SATA connector for the power and just the tach line in the 3 pin.

Otherwise, it's easy enough to change if you're not using a controller.

I would definitely modify it to use a molex if it doesn't come with one. The fan header style connection is too risky for such a high wattage pump.

How many mobo fan headers will?? I'd take a guess and say NONE

I wonder how many people won't change it and fry their mobo? rolleyes.gif

I hope they didn't do that to push their pump controllers.

they changed the info about the pump, apparently they made a mistake on the specs of its performance.. but the way the pump looks, it looks like a D5 and MCP35 pump combined together.. wonder if there would be mounting hardwares for it to be able to mount on existing D5 reservoirs. it looks possible provided w/ the right mounting hardware.

No longer interests me. It's barely stronger than my current pump with the updated specs.

I have sent the following to Koolance
"This question pertains to the new PMP-500 pump. The product description specifies that it is meant to be run from 6-12v. On the product page you have links to three controllers, two of which are rated to be used for 24v pumps. This is a direct quote from the description of the CTR-SPD1224 controller. " Running a 12V-max pump at 24V from the speed controller can damage the pump. Do not connect devices which exceed the controller’s maximum power rating (36W@12V, 50W@24V)." It is rather obvious to me that either the description is incorrect, or Koolance is recommending a controller that can damage the pump. Please explain."

We'll see what they say.

I was told that you can use the 24V pump controller. The same controller the 450S uses.
