My computer wont turn on ....

Hello Everyone i am new here i recently built my computer and when i had everything plugged in it wouldnt not turn on ....

i am wondering if my power supply is defective? or the motherboard? the power supply doesnt smell burnt or anything like that


i am using the corsair CX500

asrock extreme4

antec 300 case

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3

MSI R7770-PMD1GD5

G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Intel Core i5-3550 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz with a 212evo

Does it do anything? Fans turning or a sound of some sort?

It could be the psu but there is a way to test that by connecting some pins on the 24 pin connector, just not sure what pins. You should be able to google it.

Could be, does your PSU have a switch on the back that needs to be turned on? Mine does. Did you plug in all the power connectors? I would re-check just to be sure. If you have the ability to plug in a different power supply you could do that too, just to test.

I'm not familiar with how to actually check, but like the poster above said you could try that.

I have no way to plug in or test the power supply X_X the power supply's fan does not spin i dont think the whole PC does antything at all when i press the power switch i went back and i replugged the 24 and the 8 pin really tightly i even tried the power button on the motherboard

have you made sure that the power button is pluged in correctly and the 24 pin and the 4/8 pin connector is also connected and you have core components in correctly like the ram and processor

The PSU switch has two positions: I and O. Make sure it is in the I position.

If not, then it's a faulty PSU.

Also make sure there is not a short, as in your mobo somehow touching the case. You used mobo risers, yes?

I'm sure he has motherboard standoffs.

Is the computer connected to the wall outlet directly or is there a extender/surge protector/UPS in between ? Is the outlet on the wall working, try with something else.
