Neutron GTX vs. Plextor M5P

Thread Starter
Which is better in overall performance? I'm looking to get a 120GB/128GB version.

Whatever the benchmarks say, you won't notice a difference in real-world use. They are pretty evenly matched.

Whichever goes on sale first. Really, at the top-tier level of SSD's (such as the two listed, the Intel 520, Samsung 830, Crucial M4, Plextor M5, etc), there is really no discernable speed difference outside benchmarks (except, POSSIBLY, for the M4). The purchase should come down to how long you intend to keep it, and then buy the absolute most reliable one in your price/size range. I can't tell a difference in speed between my 256GB Samsung 830 and my friend's Vertex 4 2, and in fact they even bench similarly, but I am extremely confident in my drive's reliability, not so much in my friend's though.

Unfortunately, both drives you are looking into are still too new to have any reliability data available, but I would honestly imagine that both will be on the higher side of the scale. As you are looking for a 120/128GB drive, I would then look into the speed of each drive IN THAT SPECIFIC SIZE, and go with whatever drive shows the most consistent results between tests and also between reviews. If a drive is reviewed by 15 sites (with proper testing) and the benchmarks have a standard deviation of, say, 2% across all 15 sites' plethora of tests (comparing each test against itself, such as each set of AS-SSD results against the results from the other sites' AS-SSD testing), I would find that to be quite good and worthy of consideration. However, if the drive has a standard deviation of 8%, I would feel much less comfortable, and anything more than 15% I would skip. Those aren't hard and fast numbers, just examples, but I would definitely recommend trying to find which is the most consistent in speed tests across a huge number of different drives (using results from professional reviews, enthusiast reviews, from here, etc) and buying whichever has the better consistency, or failing that, the cheaper price.
