Installing new cpu and need to flash bios

Thread Starter
I have a Asus M3A76_CM mother Board. Going to install a new AMD HDZ955FBK4DGM Phenom II X4 955 Processor - Quad Core, 6MB L3 Cache, 2MB L2 Cache, 3.20GHz, Socket AM3, 125W, No Fan, OEM.
I have downloaded the correct bios for this cpu but have not copied it to a usb flash drive yet. I am planning on using the cpu cooler that is on the cpu now.what is the correct process for this install ,see if I have the right idea
1 copy file to flash drive - 2 install the new cpu - 3 then on restart before OS launch flash the new bios .
Am I missing anything

You always flash the bios with the current setup before installing a new CPU. Especially for Intel, if you don't flash before then it won't even boot up with an unsupported CPU. AMD is usually more forgiving with Phenom II where if it supports any Phenom II CPU on the current bios that's on there it more than likely will work with another Phenom II chip. But just to be safe, make sure you flash the bios with your current chip before installing the new CPU.

Optical Drives
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200A ATA Device
WD Virtual CD 1110 USB Device

High Definition Audio Device

and the new cpu is : AMD HDZ955FBK4DGM Phenom II X4 955 Processor - Quad Core, 6MB L3 Cache, 2MB L2 Cache, 3.20GHz, Socket AM3, 125W, No Fan, OEM.

The bios version that is listed on Asus site is update bios file 2101 . I unzipped the file before coping it to the usb flash drive . I opened the file in the flash drive to make sure it copied and received windows couldn't open the file type do I want to search the internet for a program to open it.Is this because the file is for DOS ,or do I need to copy it as an ISO bootable file.
But if what you are telling me to flash before powering down for the new install do I need to find a program to open and run the file ,and if so is there any need for me to copy this file to the flash drive. The Asus web site for the MoBo says this board it has an ez flash bio utility. I'm newbie at this flashing stuff,i've changed graphic cards and installed memory . and I have read different steps at this just about all evening , probably to much. Just don't want to screw up .Can you verify and give me a walk through to follow.I know I can manage the actual removing and replacing the cpu part . and it does make sense to flash before shutting down for the replacement .
Thank you for the Help, I will wait for a response before proceeding as I need to pickup some thermal paste tomorrow and hopefully get it changed out tomorrow.

From the Asus site for your board (select other for OS), download Afudos BIOS update tool V2.38 and M3A76-CM BIOS 2101

Follow this guide (Skip step 1 since you already have downloaded the proper BIOS files) to make a flash drive bootable.

After making it bootable, put the two files extracted from those things you downloaded on the root of the flash drive. Once you boot to it then just run the utility, like you would type AFUDOS M3A76-CM-ASUS-2101.ROM and then it will flash bios.
