Why Windows is showing 2 GBs?

Thread Starter
HI everybody,
I got this mobo P5B and I have installed 4*1G RAM. The thing is that in windows it shows only 2G of ram (at system properties, general).
Bios shows 4G of RAM. I have installed all the drivers of mobo.
this is a fresh install of windows. where is the problem here?

The reason why your system doesn't show that you have 4gb of memory is because you are running win xp. Xp will only notice up to 2gb i think i don't remember exactly. But you still have all 4gb running it just doesn't notice it.

no xp pro should notice 4 GB of memory, that is its max. its 2gb per program, 4gb total.

I've read some stuff that is saying it could be due to your graphics card, try updating drivers for that or switching cards to see if that is the issue.

Thinking again, if xp can only address 4gb of memory and your page file on your hard disk is 2 gb, that could make it ignore the rest of your ram? try turning the page file down or off.

(edit) to do that right click on my computer, properties, then the advanced tab, then perfomance, then advanced and click change under virtual memory. 16mb is the minimum, that should be close enough to 0.

just tried the pageing file stuff, turned it off but nothing changed. still shows 2G.

I don't bother how much RAM XP shows. I just want that RAM working, that's all.
